Principal's Message
Dear KWES Families,
We had many great events this past month. Our PTO put on an awesome movie night. We had over 100 families participate! Thank you to all our wonderful families that always come out and support our school. We also had a great turn out at the All-American Steakhouse earlier in the month! Dr. Seuss’ Read Across America week was a huge success followed by an enjoyable Community Read Day. We had so many honorary members of all branches of the military, police officers, and community dignitaries read in our classrooms. Our students truly enjoyed listening to all the stories!
We had a two-week long READ-A-THON challenge. Congratulations to the following classrooms that had the most minutes read: Ms. Holbrook, Ms. Dukeman, Ms. Michniak Ms. Parsons, Mrs. Williams, and Ms. Reighard’s classes! These classes raised the most money: Mrs. Wehrmann, Ms. Dukeman, Ms. Michniak, Ms. Scott, Ms. Williams, and Ms. Reighard’s classes. Thank you for an amazing job reading and supporting our school!
Lastly, the County Art Show was last Saturday at Colgan HS. Mrs. Tice, our art teacher, put on a beautiful display of artwork for KWES. We had several KWES students showcasing their creative masterpieces!
SCIENCE FAIR

If you were unable to attend, be sure to check out our webpage under “Student Links” and “SOL Practice” for at home review. We are currently hosting a SCIENCE Club for our 5th grade students that ends before Spring Break! The students have been doing some exciting hands on science experiments that will get them ready for the 5th Grade Science SOL in May. We are also hosting a Reading and Math SOL Club starting April 18th (invitations to this club are for students who need extra support). Our SOL testing calendar can be found below.

UPCOMING EVENTS IN APRIL
FAMILY STEAM NIGHT
KWES is hosting its first Family S.T.E.A.M. Night on April 20th from 6:30-8:00pm. Thank you for sending in empty cereal boxes, cardboard rolls and other box recyclables (we’ll continue to collect items until April 19th). This will be a great night to show off your engineering skills, learn about “STEAM” programs around the community (Animated Child, Mathnasium, Engineering for Kids, and Abrakadoodle) and see some of the cool STEAM projects we do in school. This is a free event. However, refreshments will be sold such as pizza slices and drinks. Flyers for the event have been sent home and will be sent home again before Spring Break. We hope to see you there!
FIELD DAY
KWES is having our first FIELD DAY on April 21st with a rain date of April 28th. A flyer went home on March 24th. Thank you to the parents who have already responded to volunteer for this wonderful event. We are excited about all the fun-filled activities that are planned!
KYLE WILSON 5K WALK FOR FITNESS
Please join us to remember and celebrate the life of our namesake Kyle R. Wilson on April 29th at C.D. Hylton HS. Registration begins at 9:30 am with the walk beginning at 10:00 am. T-shirt flyers were sent home for pre-purchase. If you did not have an opportunity to pre-purchase your shirt, you’ll still be able to purchase one at the event (however, sizes are not guaranteed). The design is on the flyer attached. There will be prizes, raffles and snacks. The Wilson family has decided to donate all the proceeds to our school to enhance our library with more books, purchase additional PE equipment and to support technology subscriptions. Our KWES families are always so supportive, so I know we will see you all there!
TRANSFERS
If you are at Kyle Wilson ES on a transfer, please complete a new transfer request for the 2017-18 school year. Transfer requests must be completed each year. They are not guaranteed and are dependent on space. If you are planning to transfer to a new school next year, please make sure that you have those submitted to Mrs. Norwood no later than April 30th. The sooner you get them in the better. If you have completed a transfer to attend another school, I sign those as soon as I receive them. We send them to the requested school and it is up to the parent to contact the requested school to follow up on whether or not the transfer was accepted.
