Clark Weekly News
For the week ending 8/19/22
Very important update for our school laptops...
Apple issued critical security updates on August 17 and 18 to address vulnerabilities that could allow hackers to gain complete control over specific Apple devices. This afternoon Mr. Watson has pushed out critical updates to all Clark issued laptops. When you Open up your MAC book, you will see in the upper right hand side of the screen a pop-up that says install updates. Click on the pop up and install the updates. Please take the time this weekend to ensure that your Clark issued laptops are updated.
If you experience any difficulties, please reach out to Mr. Watson at cwatson1@irsc.edu or see him while in school.

Volunteer Opportunities
- Front Desk volunteers needed.
- Martin County Library System ‘Teen Community of Service’ This is a fun and easy way for teens to earn community service hours on your own schedule! This self-paced volunteer program has a monthly theme that teaches important community topics and allows you to create projects that either benefit you and your family, or give back to our community. If you complete everything in the kit, you can earn up to 23 hours per month, but the amount you do is up to you! For more info, contact Teen Specialist, Lacey, at llatour@martin.fl.us.
- Big Brothers/Big Sisters offers two programs for high school students. One is a volunteer position in our School Based mentoring program and the other is a mentee role in our School to Work program. The School Based program is a fun way for volunteers to earn community service hours by helping an elementary student at a local aftercare site. The high school volunteers meet one hour/week at the aftercare site and help the children with academics, building character, and developing a friendship with a positive role model. Our School to Work program provides high school students with a business mentor. It is an “earn while you learn” opportunity, since the mentees are paid a stipend while learning employability skills and college readiness through workshops. I have attached two flyers which share more detailed information about each program.
- FIREFEST 2022 Jonathan Dickinson State Park on October 15, 2022, 1:00pm - 9:00pm. Volunteers are needed for all types of activities at the JDSP 16th Annual FIREFEST in Hobe Sound. Volunteer activities include games, bounce house, pumpkin patch, directional volunteers and much more. This is a terrific event for high school students wanting volunteer hours. Must be 16+ Reply to kstacey@unitedwaymartin.org for additional information and to sign up.
- Hope Center for Autism is looking for Clark students to volunteer in their after school program. Email ljudd@irsc.edu to get the contact info.

See the attached handout to learn more about the 7 mindsets.
I truly believe in this work and it is needed more than ever in the lives of our teens... but honestly, it is GREAT info for us all! I welcome your feedback. Call me 772-419-5751 or email me ljudd@irsc.edu
Dr. Judd
Every day is a celebration!
Make a Difference Mondays! Did you know that students who volunteer report increased feelings of happiness? We have several clubs at Clark that give back to the community. Get involved and make sure you enter those service hours in FOCUS.
Take Care Tuesdays! Get some sleep. Easier said than done, but sleep deprivation is detrimental to a person’s thinking, and their physical and emotional state. Most young people need eight to nine hours of restful sleep to function at their best. It’s not easy fitting this into a schedule filled with academic, social and recreational activities, but it sure has a big payoff. Try to have as regular a sleep schedule as possible, and you’ll generally find that your “biological clock” will remember when to fall asleep and wake up.
Way to Go Wednesdays! We want to shout out Kathi Ramos who has been an amazing volunteer for Mrs. Decker with leadership at the front desk, as well as textbook room preparations. We are so grateful to you, Kathi, for helping make things run smoothly!
Thankful Thursdays! we are grateful for our new Science teacher, Ms. Johnson! We are very excited that she will be joining the Clark team full time very soon!
Fun Fact Fridays! Did you know the slinky was created by accident? Inventor Richard James, a naval engineer, was trying to create a spring that could help stabilize equipment on boats in choppy waters. However, his spring's ability to move seemingly on its own proved more interesting and became the prototype for the Slinky in 1943. Another fun fact is that you can find slinkies in Ms. Jones and Dr. Judd’s offices if you feel the urge to play with one!
Parents and Students- Please feel free to submit for any of these categories!!! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSerigKeK1qTBIjkmbmP3L-1Kc-_UZN_mXXPKqL3uyfngb1MGg/viewform?usp=sf_link
