Parsons Pirates Update
September 8, 2023
Message From the Principal
Dear Parsons Families,
Wow! What a wonderful first week of school! We had so many smiles and only a few tears. Learning was happening right away and lots of new relationships were made. I hope you take the time this weekend to relax and enjoy family time. We can't wait to see everyone again next week!
Sincerely,
Sarah Aherne

School Hours
School doors open at 8:33! Our school hours are from 8:38am-3:33 pm. Our half day hours are 8:38 am-11:55 am. School dismissal is staggered. Please read information from your child’s teacher regarding grade level dismissal.
Arrival and Dismissal
We have a wonderful crossing guard, Ms Tammy, and a fabulous parent, Ms Brandy, who help us keep our students safe in the parking lot. Please ensure that when you are dropping off or picking up in the driveline that you pull all the way up. Please do not block the crosswalk. If you are not in the driveline, you must park. If you are parking in the front lot or the side lot, please walk your child up to school or walk up to the front doors to collect your child. We don’t want a child hit from running in the parking lot. Our parking lot is one way. Do not enter from Fryer Road.
We encourage kindergarten families to utilize the gravel parking lot on Fryer Road or the church parking lot across the street. Children will only be released to parents or guardians after the teacher has made contact.
As much as we love your dogs, please do not bring your dog (unless it’s a service animal) to arrival and dismissal. We do not want a child to be bitten. Also, we have several students who are allergic to dogs and have epipens in the office. Help us keep kids safe!
Doors will open at 8:33 am! There will not be supervision before this time.
Arrival Areas:
Mrs Przepiora's Kindergarteners enter near Fryer Street
Mrs Bannon's Kindergartners, Mrs. Pendergast's Kindergartners, and all other students enter through the main front doors.
Dismissal Areas:
Kindergarten-Front Doors by Mrs. Przepiora’s room near Fryer Street
First Grade-Fifth Grade-Main Front Doors
Buses-Bus loop by First Grade Doors
PTO Meeting
Please Check Out Our GSD Student Handbook
Student Medication and Medical Plans
If your child needs medication to be administered at school or requires a medical plan, please call the school secretary, Ms. Veronica, at 734-379-7050, and set up an appointment.
School Safety
All doors are locked during the school day. If you come to school, you will be buzzed into the foyer area and office and then asked to show identification before your child is released. All visitors/volunteers in the building must report and sign in at the office. Visitors must wear a badge in the school building. All volunteers in the classroom and for field trips must have a background check on file each year.
Parsons Positive Behavior Model
Free School Breakfast and Lunch
Governor Whitmer has made school breakfast and lunch free again this school year. You will receive free and reduced lunch forms the first day of school. Even though meals are free we encourage all families to fill out the forms. The completion of the application by our families helps us receive federal funding. Lunch menus are available at this link.
Lunch is 11:45-1:00.
K 11:45-12:10
3 11:55-12:20
1 12:05-12:30
4 12:15-12:40
2 12:25-12:50
5 12:35-1:00
Water Only in the Classroom
While we know our students love Prime, juice, milk, pop, Starbucks, etc, we ask that you help us with ensuring that only water is available in the classroom. Students are welcome to have these other drinks at lunch but they will not be allowed in the classroom.
Technology
In the first week of school, students will receive a paper copy of their technology agreement. The technology agreement needs to be filled out with the student’s name, ID number, grade level, school, and then signed by a parent or guardian before receiving any district technology. This is a change from previous years. Once the students turn in their agreement to their teacher, their teacher will issue them an iPad (K-1) or Chromebook (2-5), case, and charger. Students will not receive technology unless the agreement is signed and returned.
