Ship's Log
Week of January 14, 2019
Relationships, Relationships, Relationships
Relationships, Relationships, Relationships!!!! This probably should have been MY #OneWord2019. Relationships are the most important thing in education. You need to build relationships with students FIRST... students don't learn from teachers they don't like. Relationships go beyond being 'nice' to your students or knowing their names. How do you make real connections with the kids you work with? Do you know what their interests are? What are their passions and aspirations? I challenge you to take 2 min a day to talk to a student and really get to know them, you may be surprised by what you learn.
How about with your colleagues? How do you connect with them? Do you support them, listen, encourage? The relationships with the adults around us help build a trusting community where we can lean on each other! There are days when we feel like just shutting our doors but there are other times that we want someone to just listen. Remember that we all approach our work differently based on our own skills, interests and experiences but together we make a GREAT TEAM!
