MEA Picture Day
Thursday, September 21 / 8:30-12:30 / Auditorium
It's important that all students have their picture taken! The picture will be used for the student's school ID card and the school yearbook.
Families also have the option to purchase a picture package:
- Order Online
Go to: mylifetouch.com. The Mt. Everest picture day I.D. is CK927510Y0. Pay online, with a credit card, before portraits are taken
- Order Form
Order forms are available in the office or the computer lab. On Picture Day, bring the order form and payment - either a check made payable to “Lifetouch” or cash (EXACT CHANGE, PLEASE).
Parents, please have your picture taken on this day also, for your Parent Educator ID card!
If you're planning to be on campus for more than drop off and pick up, you must wear a Parent Educator ID card and lanyard, as per the Campus Code of Conduct policy. It's easy and inexpensive to get yours - just come to Picture Day!
- The cost for a parent ID card is $3 and must be paid on Picture Day, with cash or a check made payable to "Lifetouch."
- Your Parent Educator ID card will also qualify you for educator discounts.
- If you don't already have a lanyard, they will be available at Picture Day.
Work Due for Month 1: September 22 by 3:00 pm
Grades 6 thru 12: Please take all of your work to your supervising teacher first. After your supervising teacher reviews it, then take your subject work to each of your subject teachers.
- Students in Physics and Advanced Physics: please turn your work in to Room 17A (Ms. Pachon's room)
- Students in Spanish with Ms. Mullen: please turn your work in to Room 9
- Ms. Rice's study groups and supervising students: please turn your work in to Room 6
TURN-IN WEEK SUPPORT
Are you new to Mt. Everest and confused about work turn-in procedures? Do you need help organizing your work? Don’t stress- help is available!
Arrange to meet with a new family liaison, Nikki Bradford or Barb Mulvany some time before Friday. Find them:

MakerPlace - 1022 West Morena Blvd, Suite H, San Diego
Mark your calendars! Mt Everest families are welcome to come visit the MakerPlace, located on Morena Boulevard. The MakerPlace is “San Diego’s Premier Do It Yourself Workshop." Love our MakerSpace...come see the amazing things created on the tools there. Wood shop, metal shop, craft shop, laser lab, electronics lab and 3 D printing; all available at the MakerPlace! The tour is not long, 30-40 minutes, but is filled with interesting materials and creations.

All students that will be taking the PSAT on October 11 need to sign up in the front office. All 10th graders can take the test for free, but you MUST sign up. For all other students, the cost is $16 (payable by check or cash).
PSAT practice booklets are available in Mr. Zappala's office.

The MEA School Site Council (SSC) and Site Governance Team (SGT) still needs ONE PARENT to come forward for a two-year (2017–2019) term. National Honor Society
Students who are in grades 10-12 are welcome to apply for our Mt. Everest Academy National Honor Society Chapter. Requirements include: In grades 10, 11, or 12; GPA of 3.75 or higher; 30+ hours of community service (may be on campus or in community); demonstrated leadership experience (may be on campus or in community). For more information, visit Kris Rodenberg's teacher page linked to the MEA website. The application form is located there and is due on Friday by 3:00pm.
Back to school night!
Not able to make it to all of the presentations at Back to School Night? Here's material from a couple of topics that were covered:
Informational sessions, a parent panel, fun project for kids in the MakerSpace, live musical entertainment, Beach 'N Bowls food truck, and meeting other MEA families...it was an evening well spent!

California Clean Up Day
Thank you to all who came out this past Saturday for I Love A Clean San Diego’s annual clean up! We enjoyed cleaning up in our Clairemont neighborhood canyon with the San Diego Gulls who were very friendly and fun. It was a perfect day to clean up garbage that had been left down in the canyon and as always, it was great to know we were helping the environment and the animals who live in that area.
Thanks again for all of you who joined us in service as we represented MEA! It was a great experience! Please look here for more opportunities to give back to our community !!!
Families - Your newspapers are needed in the Makerspace (room 7)! This month's engineering challenge is furniture built from newspapers and industrious students have already begun to clean us out. All newspapers are gladly accepted!

AXA Achievement Scholarship
The AXA Achievement Scholarship offers college scholarships of $2,500, $10,000 and $25,000 to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Scholarship winners are known as AXA Achievers. They are ethnically and economically diverse, but they share these qualities: ambition and drive; determination to set and reach goals; respect for self, family and community; ability to succeed in college. The scholarship is sponsored by the AXA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AXA US. The deadline is December 15th but only 10,000 applications will be accepted, so apply early! Good luck.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation is looking for 150 incredible high school seniors who are dedicated to leadership, service, and action that positively affects others. Students who are selected as Coca-Cola Scholars will receive a $20,000 scholarship to the college of their choice, and will be welcomed into a community of nearly 6,000 program alumni.
Students may apply on the Foundation’s website from now through October 31 at 5 p.m. Eastern. Applicants must be high school seniors with at least at 3.0 GPA, and full eligibility requirements are available on the website.

Julia V., 7th grade MEA student, is performing in this production!
"Little Shop of Horrors" is a delectable sci-fi musical with an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected assistant at a floral shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names “Audrey II” after his crush at the shop.
