WHATS IN A COMPUTER?

NIC

An NIC (Network Interface Controller) is a network adapter. It’s a computer hardware. The network interface can be built into a motherboard.

CPU

The central processing unit (CPU) is the brain of your computer. It handles all the instructions that you give to your computer, and the faster it does it, the better.

NORTHBRIDGE

Northbridge is an Intel chipset that communicates with the computer processor and controls interaction with memory, the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI).

AUDIO JACKS

Audio jacks are found on many types of audio equipment and musical instruments that accept items plugged into them. In a car, an audio jack, (also called a "media jack" or "auxiliary (AUX) jack,") is a small phone socket that connects any portable music player to the vehicle's amplifier, which is the place where you can plug in in, and speakers. Also, you can plug in to a CD.

NIC

An NIC (Network Interface Controller) is a network adapter. It’s a circuit card that is installed in a computer so it can connect to a network.

CPU FAN (COOLER)

CPU Fan (cooler): The CPU (Central Processing Unit) Fan is the most important element of the computer. It’s called the brain of the computer. It processes data and interprets the computer’s hardware and software.

SOUTHBRIDGE

The southbridge is one of the two chips in the core logic chipset on a personal computer (PC) motherboard, the other chip is the nothbridge. In systems with intel chipsets, the southbridge is named I/O Controller Hub (ICH), while AMD has named its southbridge Fusion Controller Hub (FCH) since the introduction of its Fusion APUs.The northbridge ties the southbridge to the CPU. Through the use of controller integrated channel circuitry, the northbridge can directly link signals from the I/O units to the CPU for data control and access.

AGP SLOT

The Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) is a high-speed channel for attaching a video card to a computer system. It’s a graphics controller has direct access to the system memory.

PCI SLOT

A Peripheral Component Interconnect is used to attach hardware to a computer. Although it has been used since 2000, it has been replaced by PCI Express. 3 examples of PCI devices -> modem -> network card -> sound card -> video card.

CMOS BATTERY

The CMOS (complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor) Battery is the small amount of memory on a computer motherboard (short term memory) that stores the BIOS settings.

SATA PORT

The SATA Port ( abbreviated as Serial AT Attachment) is a computer bus that connects big storage devices like hard disk drives and optical drives.

IDE CONNECTOR

The IDE Connector (Integrated Drive Electronics) is an interface connecting storage devices such as hard drives and Cd’s or Dvd’s. Only one cable does this important job!

RAM

Random-access memory (RAM ) is a form of computer data storage. A random access memory device allows data items to be accessed (read or written).

VGI PORT

A Video Graphics Array (VGA) connector is a three-row 15-pin DE-15 connector. The 15-pin VGA connector is found on many video cards, computer monitors, and high definition television sets

DVI PORT

With televisions, HDMI is the most common connector. But if you want to connect a computer to your TV (or you've got a new computer monitor), the options tend to be HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, and sometimes old-school VGA

USB

Universal Serial Bus (USB) a part of a computer to which extra devices such as printers, scanners, and digital cameras can be connected easily.

PCI SLOT

PCI slots (Peripheral Component Interconnect) connect 32-bit and 64-bit PCI expansion cards to the motherboard. PCI cards send and receive data at speeds of 33Mhz for 32-bit cards and 66Mhz for 64-bit cards.

PIC-E SLOT

Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe or PCI-E) is a serial expansion bus standard for connecting a computer to one or more peripheral devices.
