Athletes Recognized at NMHS Victory Bell Ceremony

Three student-athletes from the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams were recognized for their amazing accomplishments this Fall by ringing the NMHS Victory Bell on November 7th.

Senior Eli Nahom won his 3rd straight Class L State Championship Race, and won the 1st State Open Championship in the History of NMHS! Eli has made 1st Team All-State and 1st Team All-Conference. Eli also ran in the New England Championships on 11/10 at Derryfield Park in Manchester, NH.

Freshman Claire Daniels won the Class L State Championship Race, and finished 2nd at the State Open Championships. Claire made 1st Team All-State and 1st Team All-Conference. She took 7th place in the New England Championships in Manchester, NH, earning All-New England status.

Senior Katie Delaney finished 4th at the Class L State Championships, and finished 21st at the State Opens, also qualifying for the New England Championships. Katie made 1st Team All-State and 1st Team All-Conference, as well. Way to go Eli, Claire, and Katie - congratulations!

NHS & DECA Join Forces to Help the Community

The National Honor Society and DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) teamed up in November for the annual NMHS Food Drive. Students collected and delivered two full carloads of canned goods, diapers, baby formula, and hygiene products to the New Milford Food Bank in time for Thanksgiving. NHS member Satil Moni, in charge of this year's drive, gave a special shout out to Mrs. Crowley for her generous donation, as well as many thanks to everyone who helped to help make the Food Drive such a great success again this year!

GHS & FHS Team Up to Sponsor The STAR Project

The French Honor Society and German Honor Society have partnered with New Milford Social Services to collect boots and books for local children through The Star Project. Over 80 child "Stars", age 1 to 16, will receive winter boots or age-appropriate books as FHS and GHS members hand out sponsorship stars to NMHS students who would like to participate. Stars are given out during the lunch waves from November 19th through December 10th, if you would like to sponsor a local child. Or, alternately, if an NMHS family would like to make a financial contribution instead, funds will be donated to New Milford Social Services.

On December 12th, FHS and GHS students will wrap and deliver all donated boots and books to New Milford Social Services - just in time for the holidays!

FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES, and JUNIORS: Get your PSAT scores!

PSAT Score Day is right around the corner. NMHS students will be able to view their online score report on December 11th. Click on the button below to watch a brief video on how to create a College Board Student Account and access your PSAT scores, if you don't already have one. (Parents: your child must create only one student account.) Wondering what the scores mean? Select the 'Understanding your PSAT Score' button below to learn more.

**Troubleshooting Your College Board Account: If you have created multiple College Board accounts, you must contact their customer service at 866-756-7346. School Counselors do not have access to your accounts.

Parents/guardians are invited to attend, along with their student, and will receive an appointment via email and mail. You will be asked to RSVP. Topics will include:

  • Course selection for senior year

SENIORS: Plan Ahead for College Application Deadlines

Typically, your transcript requests are sent electronically within a day of your request in Naviance. However, if you plan to apply to college over Winter Break, your transcript will not be sent out until January 2 when we return to school. If all of your documents are required by January 1, you need to apply by December 15, so that you can request your transcript in Naviance to be sent out during the week of December 17-21, after you've submitted your application. For most schools, you must submit your application by the deadline - your transcripts and letters of recommendation can be sent after you've applied.

SENIORS: National Scholarship Links

Some of you have finished your college apps and have already been asking about scholarships. While it's still a bit early for local scholarships (most applications are re-written each year, and forms are not received in the College & Career Center until after Feb. 1), there are many national scholarships available in the mean time. Winter Break is a great time to start researching - check out these national scholarship sites online:

You can also use the national scholarship feature in Naviance - under the 'Colleges' tab, select 'Scholarships and Money', then select 'National Scholarship Search'.

College Essay Assistance

Literacy Volunteers of New Milford continue to be available to assist our seniors with college essay writing. Print and complete this parental permission form and return it to Mrs. Shaffer in the College & Career Center in order to set up an appointment to work with a volunteer.

Senior Workshops Continue
