We had another fantastic week at Northern. Our students are focused and determined to build greatness. As we get back into the swing of things at Northern, we want to continue reminding families of the student expectations and critical information.

GOOD THINGS
Our JV Volleyball Team got a massive win at Chapel Hill last night. Let's celebrate our Lady Knights for their win and an Amazing Season. Our Varsity Lady Knights have had a fantastic season as well!

Student Expectations
Main Expectations:
- Be on time
- Stick to the assigned schedule
- Work hard
- Follow directions
Leaving Campus:
Any student signing in late may do so through the front office and receive a pass to attend class. Any student signed out early must have a parent/guardian sign them out through the main office.
Students are not allowed to leave campus and return unless they are signed out by a parent or guardian or have open lunch. Students who do, are subject to disciplinary action.
Food Deliveries:
- Students are not allowed to bring food back on campus after 12:45 pm. If a student is caught bringing food back for other students after this time, they can lose their lunch pass.
- Students can have food delivered by doordash, postmates, or friends/family members. The food will be delivered to the Bus lot entrance only. Delivery times are 12:10- 12:45. Any food delivered after 12:45 pm will be held by the main office until dismiss
Student Parking:
Only students with an NHS-issued parking permit are allowed to park at NHS.
A parking permit must be visible on the rearview mirror or dashboard.
Students must park in the student parking lot.
Students parking anywhere else on campus or parking without a permit will have their vehicle towed at their own expense.
Dress Code:
A. Allowable Dress & Grooming
1. Students must wear clothing including dresses/jumpsuits, or both a shirt or top with bottoms, including shorts, pants or a skirt, or the equivalent and shoes.
2. Clothing must have the fabric on the front, back, and sides.
3. Clothing must cover undergarments; underwear waistbands and bra straps are not required to be covered and are excluded.
4. Fabric covering all private parts of the body must be opaque and cannot be see-through or mesh, or transparent. Private parts include the breasts, genitals, and buttocks.
5. Fitted pants, including leggings, yoga pants, and "skinny jeans."
6. Sweatpants, pajama/lounge pants, midriff-baring shirts (must be able to cover private areas when arms are raised), ripped jeans as long as any portion of undergarments covering private parts are not visible.
7. Tank tops, including spaghetti straps, halter tops, and strapless tops.
8. Religious headwear is expressly allowed to cover the head and face.
9. Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities, including physical education, science labs, wood shop, and other activities where unique hazards may exist.
a. Courses requiring attire as part of the curriculum (for example, professionalism, public speaking, CTE courses, and job readiness may include assignment-specific dress but should not focus on covering bodies in a particular manner or promoting culturally specific attire.
10. Specialized courses may require specialized attire.
a. School-sanctioned uniforms and costumes approved by the principal for athletic, choral, band or dramatic performances are allowed.
11. Students may dress and style their hair for school in a manner that expresses their individuality and culture, including, for example, locs, braids, geles
a. Certain programs may have more restrictive requirements for hairstyles, including NCHSAA and ROTC programs, which require signatures of students and parents consenting to these restrictions on grooming and dress.
B. Prohibitions
Students are prohibited from wearing clothing, jewelry, book bags, or other articles of personal appearance which:
1. depict profanity, vulgarity, obscenity, or violence;
2. promote the use or abuse of tobacco, drugs, or alcohol;
3. endangers or creates a threat to the health or safety of the student or others;
4. are prohibited under the Gangs and Gang Activities in Policy 430l(III-7) and Gang Related Activity, Policy 4328;
5. are reasonably likely to create a substantial and material disruption to the educational process or to the operation of the school, including but not limited to items that are reasonably expected to intimidate other students based on race (for example, the Confederate battle flag, swastika, and Ku Klux Klan or KKK), color, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or religious affiliation.
Attendance:
Teachers are only able to mark students Absent, Present or Tardy. Any absence notes/excused absences must go through the attendance secretary, Ms. Alston-Pettiford.
Each parent will get a notification via PowerSchool when their child has been marked tardy or absent, and a phone call goes home if they missed three or more periods in the day.
Students should arrive and be seated in class before the tardy bell rings.
Anyone who has not arrived at their classroom by the bell should be marked tardy. If the student doesn’t have a pass, the tardy is unexcused.

Athletics:
This week our JV Volleyball team got the big W against Chapel Hill. Our Lady Knights are having a fantastic season this year. If you are interested in volleyball, come out to cheer them on when they play at home this week.
Unfortunately, our JV and Varsity Soccer teams lost their games on Thursday, as well as our JV football team. Our Knights played great games.
Our Football Varsity Team also fell to Wakefield on Friday evening.
