UPDATE April 9, 2020 under Gov. Wolf's order...
Crestwood SD will be closed for the duration of the school year.
This morning, I issued an order under Act 13 of 2020 to close all public schools through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year, as defined by the local school calendar. (which for CSD is June 11, 2020)
Additionally, Governor Wolf is ordering all K-12 schools and programs, public and private, to be closed through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts, Head Start Supplemental Assistance Programs and Preschool Early Intervention programs will also remain closed, and institutions of higher education are prohibited from offering in-person instruction.

Message from Superintendent Mehalick
Thursday, April 9, 2020.
Good afternoon Crestwood Families,
I want to inform you that a short time ago we received notice from the Secretary of Education, Pedro Rivera, who announced Pennsylvania schools will be closed for the remainder of the school year.
I am sure this news will have a tremendous emotional impact on our students and families, especially the great class of 2020. I want to ensure our seniors and their families Crestwood will recognize their graduation and festivities will be planned.
Crestwood School District has demonstrated strength adjusting to the challenges our world is facing. Our early success is the result of our faculty exceeding expectations in their professionalism while improving their virtual facilitating capacities. Our families have exceeded expectations as well, demonstrating willingness to be diligent and patient. In addition to your patience and support, we recognize the hard work you are doing to help your children complete lessons, navigate virtual learning, and manage this new educational endeavor. We cannot thank you enough.
The Crestwood School District’s Continuity of Education plan has been a work in progress since late February when our administration recognized the potential need. We were proactive. We must now be reactive to the needs of our community. We understand the challenges posed by the pandemic manifest differently for all of our families. Challenges and differences aside, we all value education. Together, we have demonstrated our commitment to education is the most valuable asset to our children. So, while our Continuity of Education Plan does not mandate work be completed, we know our families will ensure their children are working to the level each family is capable. While attendance is not mandatory, Crestwood School District will be putting in place measures to gauge participation so we may support and assist our families to remove barriers to participation.
Our faculty will continue to refine and grow our repertoire specific to home based learning. As the educational leader of the Crestwood School District, I must implore our community to embrace the temporary model of education, so once we are back to “normalcy” the Crestwood School District will be well positioned to transition. We will continue to serve lunch and breakfast; more information will be forthcoming. We will continue to remove all technological barriers faced by families. Do not hesitate to contact your building administrator or school counselor for assistance.
I ask for your continued patience and cooperation. The safety and well-being of our entire community is our top priority and if we follow the orders of our Governor we will come through this together and more resilient than ever before.
You remain in my thoughts.
Bob Mehalick
