We will make connections with this reading skill in Social Studies, as we study the advantages and disadvantages of the British and Continental Armies during the American Revolution.
Summarize - Students will paraphrase each section of the Declaration of Independence, as well as summarize the key points.
- GCISD Reads Book Challenge - students will select their challenge for this year (click the link below for details)
LANGUAGE ARTS:
- Vocabulary - mega, megal, megalo
- February 2 - Vocabulary Quiz
SOCIAL STUDIES:
- Unit 5 - American Revolution - Students will engage in several interactive discussions and a "Tug of War" simulation to help understand the advantages and disadvantages of both the British and Continental Armies.
- Continue Cornerstone Task 5 - Through various activities and research, students will develop a claim to the following prompt: "The British Army was better prepared to win the war." Students will create a flow chart of 3 main reasons and evidence to support their claim.
MATH & SCIENCE
- CBA #12 - Monday, January 26th
- Unit 6 - Multiply Fractions with Whole Numbers - Students will continue practicing strategies to multiply a fraction with a whole number. They will also focus on area models to represent multiplication, as well as a standard algorithm. Division - Students will learn how to divide a whole number by a unit fraction and a unit fraction by a whole number.
- Math Notebooks - It is very important for students to take home their Math notebooks DAILY!! Strategies, notes, and example problems for all skills are written or glued into their notebooks. Students need to become familiar with all of the strategies for fraction by practicing these strategies on homework or additional practice at home.
- FACT Practice!!! Students are expected to know multiplication facts up through the 12's. Students need to practice nightly using flashcards or XtraMath.org. This helps strengthen fact fluency of all operations.
- NIGHTLY HOMEWORK - Students need to complete the homework sheet for each corresponding day, so they are prepared for class! Students are expected to use RUBIES strategies while reading and solving problems. They MUST show their thinking for each problem.
SCIENCE:
- Space Science - identify the differences and similarities between the earth and the moon through interactive notes and lab investigations.
