5th Grade ***VERY IMPORTANT***
The annual student survey window is open. Please plan to have all students complete this survey before April 1. If you need help with make-ups, please let me know. This is a different survey than the one we gave a few weeks ago. At this time, only 37 students in 5th grade have completed this survey.
To access the survey, click here!
The survey can be taken between the hours of 7-5. Once you click "start survey" I understand you will need the school BEDS code. Ebinport is 4603023
Let me know if you have any questions. I can check through the state department website to see how many students have take this survey. Only fifth graders are required to take this!

Safety Committee
Safety Committee was joined by Jill Watts this week during committees, Highlights from this meeting are below.
o The conference room door across from the boy’s bathroom on B Hall should also be locked.
Board Policy says that you should close and lock your door when you are not in the room. If you have students in your room, you should also close and lock your door. This is a non-negotiable.
o There are concerns about adults checking on zones during fire drills in a timely manner. The kindergarten and first grade playground waited quite a while before being checked on in recent fire drills. There has been a suggestion to have adults go around once evacuated to say who they have “extra.” This may help to account for students who are “missing” in a more efficient manner. It was also suggested that Sara Sawczuk take on the responsibility of checking parts of D Hall; this would allow her to go onto the first and second grade playground more quickly.
· We may also need to discuss tornado drills and lockdown in high traffic areas (outside of your classroom). Teachers are concerned about what to do in these large areas with a large number of students.
· Is there a plan for adding an exit gate off the first and second grade playground? The egress gate into the neighborhood was removed when the fence was replaced. The gate by India Hook is locked.
·
Why were we not put in lock down when there was an arrest made across the street (assault on Winthrop’s campus…suspect arrested at Sawyer’s gas station)? Who makes the call on whether we go into lockdown when crime is occurring in the immediate area? --- RHPD usually helps to make this call. Jill Watts and Kevin Wren have a part in this, but largely follow their lead. Remember, anyone in the building also has the authority to lock the school down if they see something.
**Please note, Mrs. Kelsey checked with Kevin Wren who indicated we did not need to go in lockdown.
·
ALL students are not being escorted by teachers during dismissal – particularly fourth and fifth grade students. Students are racing down the halls to the car rider line and out onto the bus lot. Teachers for each grade level should escort their students, come out onto the bus lot, and should wait until all buses have departed. Teachers should also lead their lines to prevent students from running. --- There has been little change with this concerning bus riders. Remember that all students should be escorted during dismissal.
o 2nd grade and 5th grade teachers should monitor students how ride Bus 76, should escort them outside when the bus arrives and should stay until all of the buses have left.
o K, 1st, 3rd, 4th grade teachers should all be outside until all buses have left.
·
We had a successful tornado drill. Remember to go between the “Severe Weather Zone” signs.
o Consider having each teacher assigned to a zone.
o Remember to close all fire doors.
o You're are allowed to double stack in elementary school hallways.
FROM JILL WATTS:
We talked about three year loss history for worker’s comp. Slips, trips, and falls is the biggest cause of this.

Present: Allison, Rasmusson, Clark, Flaherty, Hood, Higdon, Nassy, Brevard, Lake, Vaughan
1. Ebinport Gardens: Dr. Keely visited with us. His group partners with master gardeners. With short time left in school, probably better to start with plants that are already established. Garden time might be good for a break after testing.
2. Lost and Found Clean Up: Mrs. Lake is bringing her rolling rack to put on the stage Friday. Looking for hangers and help to hang up so that starting Monday classes can go by.
3. Mrs. Jackson’s Shower: Tuesday, May 21. Please change her shower to a regular shower. (She is getting books from others.)
4. Staff party will be at Food Truck Friday. We will send out flyer. Come and fellowship.
6. Testing blues potluck on May 3. Sign up will be sent out by Lake. Appetizers will be in work room.
PBIS/Climate
SOW:
-Same kids receiving awards, starting to have repeats.
- Suggestion for Eagle Pride Character Word for the week---Ex: Choose one child who exhibits best "Leading by Example". Teacher in lower grades can choose, or upper grades nominate peers.

Code Progression for 4th Code: What to do as a consequence?
Suggestions:
-Apology letter and silent lunch
-Sentence starters for apology letters
-Eat lunch with person to resolve conflict---peer to peer conflict resolution.
