Holy Cross 7th Grade REader

Mrs. Perreault and Mrs. Pufundt, RE Co-Instructors

Our focus this year...The Life of Grace

We will be using two books this year, the Faith and Life book and the Encounter book.

Faith and Life

THEME: Beginning with an understanding of God’s loving gift of the revelation of himself through creation, the prophets, the Incarnation, and the Church, grace is understood as central to our relationship with God. It unites us with him and allows us to share in his eternal life. The lessons place special emphasis on the role of grace in developing the virtues, and especially on the transmission of grace through the seven Sacraments.

AIM: To help seventh-grade students treasure the Sacraments as indispensable elements of a full Christian life of love and truth. To deepen an understanding of grace, how it is given, and its relation to practicing the virtues. To appreciate the gifts of faith and reason.

Encounter Bible Study

God has an amazing plan for you, and it’s written out in the Scriptures. In this Bible study, you will learn about God’s plan for you, for your friends and for your family. Through fun video and discussion sessions, you will learn to see God’s hand in your everyday life at school and at home, and you will never see your Faith the same again.

Our focus in class...

Come prepared each week by reading the chapter(s) listed on your weekly schedule. Everyone is busy but God is not too busy for everyone. Make time for Him. Having a routine helps each of us to remember what we need to do each day. Reading should only take 10- 15 minutes each week, and perhaps Sunday (Keep Holy the Sabbath) would be a great day to read and reflect on the readings. This way we will be able to have more time for discussion, videos and activities including games and projects in class.

About Your Instructor...

Mrs. Perreault: I grew up on the northwest side of Chicago. My husband I have lived in Batavia and have been members of Holy Cross for the last seventeen years. We have four wonderful children ages 17, 15, 12 and 9. They are so much fun! I have been teaching the middle school years of RE for the last four years and just love it. I am so excited about teaching another year of RE! Seventh grade kids are terrific!

About Your Instructor...

Mrs. Pufundt: I LOVE to learn and I LOVE to teach. I guess you can say that's two gifts from God :-) I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and nurse! I enjoy skiing, bicycling, being outside and family time with my husband and daughter, Issabella and our two little dogs, Brady and Rosa! I have taught RE for the past 6 years and all 6 grades! I am truly looking forward to getting to know each of you and sharing the joy of our Catholic faith with you!

Each week in class...

We will also focus on the importance of daily prayer in our lives, learn more about the saints, practice finding scripture passages in the bible and share with each other how we can live out our "Call to Joy"- Jesus, Others, Yourself. Two of God's greatest commandments is to love God and love your neighbor as you love yourself.

We are all called to be saints. So how can we live a spiritual and faithful life daily?...

Sunday: Go to Mass and keep the day for God, family and friends.

Sunday through Saturday: In addition to following the 10 Commandments, we should PRAY, PRAY, PRAY! Recall the five types of prayer...

1. Thankful- thank God for all you have (family, friends, school, health).

2. Praise- praise God for Him, Jesus, and Mary.

2. Intercession- Ask for help from the saints in heaven (church triumphant) and the people on earth (church militant).

3. Forgiveness- Ask for God's mercy for your sins that you commit each day, in thoughts, words and actions.

4. Petition- Ask Jesus to help you with a situation, circumstance or problem.

Wednesdays: Go to RE! Meet in church and LISTEN to Father. He will lead us in a short lesson and we will pray one decade of the rosary together. Mom and dad are ALWAYS welcome to stay!

"Extra Credit"- Putting Your Faith Into Action

We distributed a list of "extra credit" activities that each student can choose to do throughout this RE year. The purpose of these activities is to challenge you to put your faith into action.

Jesus said in Mark 12: 29-31, “The first is this: ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Each time you complete an activity, you will be able to take a "treasure" from the treasure box. Remember, one treasure per week, however, you may complete more than one activity per week :-)
