Message From Mrs. El-Amin & Ms. Riddle
Hello TLA Families!
Another great week of learning here at TLA. This week scholars throughout the building worked extremely hard to show content mastery through different fluency assessments, end/mid-unit modules, and final assignments for the quarter. We are always amazed at what children can do and will do, given the high expectations and opportunities. Next week kick starts Quarter Three and our second semester. As well as our mid-year pit stop, the Winter MAP assessments in reading and math. This will help us take a diagnostic of where scholars are academically and allow us to fine tune our instruction. We encourage you to take the time to create Quarter Three goals with scholars and use the strategies below to help prepare your child for next week's assessments. As always we look forward to another week of learning.
We wanted to share a quick reminder with all of you:
- No school for scholars this Monday, January 16th - MLK day
Now let's go be great.
Tavi Riddle - Principal, K4-5th
Priscilla El-Amin - Principal, 6th - 12th

Culture Connections
Mr. Cieplewski's Message
Another successful semester completed at TLA. I am so proud of all of the scholars that really turned their grade around towards the end of the semester. Our scholars were responsible and communicated with their teachers to finish the semester strong. With the semester coming to a close, our scholars will have MAP testing on January 17th. We are looking forward to scholars showing what they know and helping us tailor more individualized learning opportunities. Good luck scholars!!
Mr. Anderson's Message
“The price of greatness is responsibility” (Winston Churchill)
In order for us to be the premiere K4-12 school not only in the state but in the nation we need our scholars to be here at school. Our attendance numbers are improving but they are not where we need to be as a school community. Please let us know how we can help support you in getting your scholar to school. THANK YOU And GO LIONS!
Attendance Goal
At TLA, we believe that ALL children can succeed, and we know that families want what is best for their children as well! Did you know that there is a strong connection between absences and school achievement?? Missing just a day or two every month can cause children to fall behind. Strong attendance will help your child to do well in school and graduate from high school ready to pursue a career, enroll in college, or enlist in the armed services.
If you have questions or concerns about your child’s attendance, we are here to help! Please reach out to the School Social Worker, Mrs. Nitz, at (608) 690-5158 or jennifer.nitz@tlabeloit.com
TLA 2022-2023 Average Attendance - 92.69%
Career Chat with Ms. Benisch
Arts and Communication Career Focus
We continue to learn about Arts and Communication careers this month. We had the opportunity to visit the Big Radio Station in Janesville. Scholars interested in broadcasting, writing, and business attended the field trip. Scholars met the owner and operations manager, toured the station, and participated in a question and answer session. The radio station was live during our visit and scholars got to see the host run the show.
Digital Art Exploratory
Digital Art middle school scholars have been learning how to produce digital art using computer programs. They are working to develop and grow their artist abilities through the use of digital tools. Scholars just finished completing their magazine project at the end of the quarter. Thank you to ABC Supply Co. for the generous donation of Surface tablets that the scholars are working on.
Engineering Summer Program
Clubs
It was an exciting quarter of scholars participating in after-school clubs. This past week the Entrepreneur Club presented their business plan, "Rubber Band Bracelets." Throughout the quarter scholars learned about the 4 P's of Marketing (Product, Place, Price, Promotion), how to work together, and how to write a proposal. Thank you to our volunteer adviser from gener8tor that volunteered his time to work with the scholars.
Quarter 3 club sign-up is now open. They will start the week of January 30th. Please have your scholars sign- up here if they are interested in participating in a club this coming quarter. Scholars must re-sign up even if they were in the club quarter 2. Scholars will be billed $10 for club participation through Skyward.
2-2-2 Rule
Scholars are ineligible to participate in a club if they fall into any of the categories below for the previous quarter:
Two or more F’s or a GPA less than 2.0
Two or more Unexcused absences
Two or more school suspensions
