Washington Weekly
August 14, 2020
Please make sure to take a minute and read the latest update from Dr. Migliorino below regarding the district's Back-to-School Plan. All instruction for NPS students will begin virtually on August 24th.
There is information below about loading the Seesaw App for parents. We would like for you to do this by this coming Monday. Teachers will begin communicating with you through this app beginning next week.
We've also included some information for help with options for families for student supervision during this time of remote learning. There are several resources available if you are in need or know someone who is.
We know that this change to virtual instruction for all students to start the school year is difficult for families and students. Know that we are here to assist you in any way that we can.
Please reach out to us at lconnery@norman.k12.ok.us, slowery@norman.k12.ok.us or through the school # at 366-5984 if we can assist in any way.
Stay safe!

Remote Learning Schedules
Many have asked how remote learning for students enrolled in the traditional/remote learning option or the blended learning option will be structured. Daily schedules have been designed to keep students engaged throughout the school day, without being in front of a screen for hours at a time. Click here to view district-wide remote learning schedules for all grades, as well as videos that provide some helpful information.
Please keep in mind that each teacher’s class may differ slightly, and teachers will communicate directly with students and parents. Students enrolled in the blended learning option may follow the A.M. or P.M. section of the remote learning schedules. It is also important to note that students who are enrolled in full-time virtual learning will not follow the remote learning schedules. Rather, they will receive different schedules from their teachers if they are enrolled in a full-time virtual option.
Have you Enrolled Yet? If not, see information below!
There are three learning options available for the 2020-2021 school year: traditional/remote, blended and full-time virtual. Since school is beginning in remote learning/virtual mode, I want to communicate and clarify the enrollment learning options.
- Traditional/remote - choose or stay with this option if you are planning to send your child to school when the school district begins to transition to in person instruction. Your child will be learning virtually with a Washington classroom teacher and will remain with the same teacher when we return in person instruction.
- Blended will also stay the same when we transition to in-person instruction. We will work with you on what your student's daily schedule will look like for your child. It is our intent to keep your child's in person teacher and virtual teacher consistent through the transition to in person instruction.
- Full-time virtual NPS will be placed with a full time virtual teacher from the district. This person will be the same throughout the school year. So when the rest of the students come back to in person instruction, the virtual students will continue instruction with their virtual teacher at home. This teacher could be a teacher from your home school Washington, but there is a chance that it will be from another site in Norman Public Schools.
- Full -time virtual Edgenuity will be placed with a full time Edgenuity teacher and will continue with that person throughout the semester.

Message from PTA President, Summer McGuire
Hello Washington Families!
We are beginning to see that this year is going to be full of unknowns! Through the ins-and-outs of the year, the mission of the PTA remains to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. We are fully ready to support the administration, students and parents, and school as much as we can!
Washington Online Store
We plan to open the Washington Store on Tuesday, September 8 which will give parents the opportunity to purchase PTA Memberships, 2020-2021 Yearbooks, Tshirts, and Masks for the school year. We are teaming with Massive Graphics this year and all Tshirt and Mask orders will be purchased online (through Massive Graphics) and shipped directly to your house! Memberships, yearbooks, and Friday Treat donations will still be purchased through Washington PTA. We are super excited about this convenience!
PTA Memberships - ONLY $9
If you would like to purchase a PTA Membership now, you may do so now for only $9 at https://washpta.square.site/product/pta-membership/2?cs=true
The Washington Elementary PTA is a great way to get involved at Washington. By joining the PTA (for only $9), you have a chance to voice your ideas about school business, meet other parents and teachers, build rapport, make friends, and develop further relationships within the community. Your membership helps to provide support for teachers, scholarships for students and items and projects for the school to help with educational needs. It is honestly a great way to give back and stay-in-the-know at Washington!
