The Detroit Lakes High Newsletter for Parents and Guardians
Distance Learning over the Holidays
Parents, Guardians and Students,
The Superintendent recently sent an email discussing the reason for the change in learning models for different buildings in the district. As you know we have been on the Distance Learning Model for the last week and a half and we will continue to stay on it until January 18th. I am sharing more information for you as we move forward.
As you heard from the Governor, starting Saturday, November 21st we are ‘Pausing’ all activities, practices, performances and events for four weeks until at least Friday, December 18. Rob Nielsen, DLHS Activity Director will be sharing more specific information with coaches and students about what the Return to Play may look like as he gets more information.
We have adjusted both the bell schedule and the daily schedule starting this Monday, November 23rd.
See below for the Block Bell Schedule and the “Distance Friday” Bell Schedule
These are small adjustments that give students and staff a little bit longer break between periods.
See below for the calendar
The daily period rotation will be changed to:
Monday - Odd Periods
Tuesday - Even Periods
Wednesday - Odd Periods
Thursday - Even Periods
Friday - All Periods
DISTANCE FRIDAY SCHEDULE:
Below is our current distance Friday schedule. Remember on these days teachers may be meeting with students synchronously or asynchronously. They will post their plan on their landing pages in case you have a question as a parent. There is also a calendar below this schedule to show which schedules we will be running. Scheduled In-Person Interventions for Students
Our goal is to provide support for those students that are struggling with classes while still maintaining a safe environment for staff and students. In order to provide this extra support, we need to limit the number of in-person students. All COVID guidelines and procedures will be followed, please remain at home if you have symptoms or have been exposed.
Distance Friday Adjustment
I have given teachers the ability to adjust their Distance Friday Learning plans. Up to this point all teachers have been required to hold a synchronous class and provide a live streamed meeting with students. Beginning October 30, teachers will be allowed the flexibility to have both synchronous and asynchronous learning on Fridays. We will continue to follow the same bell schedule for the synchronous classes to meet. Teachers will be posting on landing pages their plan for each Friday, and they will also share their plan with students.
Students are expected to connect with their teachers synchronously (live-streamed) during distance learning. Teachers will take attendance each period. If a student is sick and unable to be in attendance they should contact the school attendance line, listed at the bottom of this page. If a student has technology issues or has some other reason why they cannot attend synchronously, they should contact their teacher that day and notify them of the situation.
