TWO Parliamentary Procedure Teams are District Champions and STATE BOUND!The Cardington FFA Parliamentary Procedure Teams have been preparing heavily for the past two and a half months of their competition season. With practices usually four times a week, they have been learning the ins and outs of how to run a proper business meeting according to Robert's Rules of Order including making motions, demonstrating abilities, and debating on topics. This rigorous contest requires students to think on their feet and execute team strategy in a timed demonstration. Both our Novice and Advanced Teams have competed in and qualified out of the County and Sub-District Competitions and, on November 29, both won the District Competition held at Urbana High School while competing against teams from nine different counties. Both the Novice and Advanced Parliamentary Procedure Teams have clinched a spot at the State Competitions. The preliminary bracketing round will take place on Tuesday, December 6. The State Novice Competition will follow on Saturday, December 10 and the State Advanced Competition will be held on Saturday, December 18. Students on these teams are: Novice: Brandon Hughes, Cailynn Robinson, Ava Davis, Hailey Littlemeyer, Megan Gardner, Issac Broome, Isabelle Hess, Brayden Rammelsberg, Danny Townsend, and Madison Dornon Advanced: Ryan Spires, Sarah Perry, Alexis Peters, Lane Hughes, Sophia Goers, and Rylee Donkin | Goers and Kintz Place 9th in State Job Interview Competition This fall, Cardington FFA members have been competing in the various levels of the Ohio FFA Job Interview Competition. In this CDE, students are tasked with completing a resume and cover letter, filling out an application in a timed process, conducting a 20 minute interview with an industry professional, and writing a follow up letter following the email. This competition operates at a County, Sub-District, District, and State level, with 45 students getting eliminated at each of the final two rounds. Miranda Kintz and Sophia Goers both qualified through the County and Sub-District Contests to clench their spot at Districts where they both won their division. At the State Competition, Miranda and Sophia both Placed 9th in their Division. We are incredibly proud of these young ladies! We would also like to recognize Alexis Peters, who placed third in the District Competition! | Fall Harvest Day On November 4, Junior and Senior FFA members facilitated portions of the Fall Harvest Day at Cardington Elementary! FFA Members taught a lesson on Apple and Apple Cider Production and were able to demonstrate an old-time Apple Cider Press for the students. (We would like to thank Don Lee for letting us borrow this press!) FFA members also led students in storytime, an agriculture-themed putt putt course with trivia, and joined them on a hayride through town. We had a wonderful day rounding out the first quarter and ringing in fall! |

Athletic Campaign
Winter sports athletes are hard at work as they opened their seasons in November.
- The girls’ basketball team posted a 2-2 record to start the season. Including an overtime win over Fredericktown to open league play at 1-0. The girls will continue their quest for another league title next Saturday as they take on Danville at home.
- The boys’ basketball team is off to a promising 2-0 start to the season. They will open their league schedule at Fredericktown Friday. The boys will play their first home game Saturday against Delaware Christian.
- The boy’s and girl’s Bowling teams opened their season at the Rocket Baker Bash. The boys finished second while the girls were edged out by the running by three pins. Both teams will face Fredericktown on Monday at Morrow Lanes.
- The wrestling team will open their season this weekend at the Thom Ellis invitational at Mansfield Madison High School. The teams' numbers have nearly doubled from a year ago, potentially making this extremely competitive year for the Pirates.

Guidance News
SAVE THE DATE:
Our 2023-24 CCP Information Night is scheduled for Wednesday, January 25th at 6:30p in the auditorium.
MTC will present general information regarding the rules and regulations along with any changes for the 2023-24 school year. They will also discuss specifics about their CCP program, as CLHS does partner with MTC on many classes.
Attending a CCP Information meeting is required for all students & parents for the upcoming year along with completing an "Intent to Participate" form. We are planning on having a digital (Google form) version for 23-24 and should have that link available that night. Intent forms are due by April 1st, 2023 and college application deadlines (specific for CCP) vary so please contact guidance and/or the college you are interested in for those dates.
Seniors and Parents/Guardians of Seniors:
CLHS is hosting a senior night and hopefully, we will have a FAFSA representative on hand for those needing assistance with the college application process and/or FAFSA completion. The event is planned for Thursday, January 19th at 6:30p in the auditorium.
Many public colleges have a regular admission deadline of February 1st, 2023, though others have dates beyond that. This is an opportunity to help those still deciding on their post-secondary plans and to learn more about the financial aid process that can play an important role in deciding on a particular college and program.
CCP Deadline:
MTC's deadline to register for Spring 2023 courses is Friday, January 6th, 2023 by 5p. Students are encouraged to register for courses prior to December 19th, 2022 as book vouchers are available that day.
MTC will be closed Wednesday, December 21- Tuesday, January 3 for winter break. They have sent reminders to students to contact us before the 21st if they want to register for the spring term as classes are filling up and may not be available in the format (i.e. online, in-person, hybrid) they are looking for.
FFA and 8th Grade Join to Celebrate Veteran's DayThis Veteran's Day, Cardington FFA Members partnered with the 8th grade cohort to celebrate our Veterans and remember their service. FFA members joined 8th graders in planting nearly 750 American Flags around the entrance to the school building. They then joined together on Veteran's Day for a Flag Raising Ceremony with a reflection led by Alexis Peters and Rylee Donkin, Cardington FFA Officers. Mr. Neff, Middle School Band Teacher, played the taps at the conclusion of this ceremony. FFA Members also celebrated Veteran's Day by making and presenting boutineers and homemade thank you cards to faculty at Cardington Elementary, Middle, and High School who have served in the military or had immediate family members who served in our armed forces. These flower arrangements brought visibility to their service and, hopefully, encouraged gratitude from those who saw them throughout the day. | FFA Celebrates New MembersThis fall, Cardington FFA welcomed its freshmen members... Mario Kart Style! They hosted a Greenhand Fun Night to teach freshmen about opportunities in the organization and to forge relationships between their upperclassmen and their new members. Ohio FFA State President, Aubrey Swartz, and Ohio FFA State Vice President, Luke Jennings joined in on the fun and presented a workshop about taking advantage of opportunities within the FFA. Members then competed in a Mario Kart Obstacle Course, "Shell Dodgeball," "Escape from Bowser's Castle" Escape Room, Banana Road Corn Hole, and Giant Mario Kart. They also had to solve riddles along the way to determine who kidnapped Princess Peach! Each station was facilitated by our sophomores, juniors, and seniors! | Agriculture Classes Partner with Community to Learn Equipment Operation and Harvest Students in the Plant and Animal Science Classes have been learning about harvest operations and equipment this fall. They partnered with Etgen Farms, Goodman Farms, and the Cardington Farm Association to have hands-on experiences in this field. Students started by learning about yield estimation to determine how much profitable product would be taken during harvest. They travelled to the School Farm on County Road 166 to estimate the corn and observe the harvest process being done by Association Members Gary Fiant and Howard Radel. Students then learned about basic equipment operation from guest speaker and Cardington Alumni, Dylan Goodman. Before Thanksgiving Break, sophomore students got to participate in a tractor "driver's ed" by driving a tractor provided by Etgen Farms around the school parking lot. We're thankful for the community involvement and hands-on experiences! |
