Needing to see the school counselor?
Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chrome books by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. If you have any questions or need help finding the form refer to the email that was sent from Mrs. Horstmeier. You can also ask your teacher for help.If you can't locate the form you can also shoot your school counselor an email. AFTER SCHOOL CHOIR aka HARMONY HORNETS RESUMES NEXT WEEK, Tuesday, February 5th, 2019! We are accepting new members, and welcoming the returning singers as well!
MUSIC 6
Our Winter weather has really cut into our time together, but these classes are making great progress anyway! We will plan to wrap up our discussions and practice of rhythm by the end of next week.
Next week, we will continue practicing the Cups song, complete a progress check on note and rest identification. We are preparing to begin the learning about various styles of music as well.

Arts Alive 8 and Arts Alive 7
Both grade levels are beginning their shows this week!
Arts Alive 8 will be revising the show that their peers wrote last year. Some of the original writers of the show are in the current class, so this should be an exciting revision process as we turn our play into a musical! We have been invited to tour this show to Wentzville to perform for many of the Wentzville school district's students!
Arts Alive 7 is beginning work on an entirely original musical that is related to their Social Studies content. We are ready to jump in and get started! Additionally, our Annie Jr cast from the Fall semester has been invited to perform at the next Board of Education meeting! Students who were part of Annie Jr will sing for the Board of Education on Wednesday, February 13th! We will meet at FHS in the Commons (cafeteria area) at 6:30pm. The meeting begins at 7pm! Parents, family, friends are welcome to come support our students!

Choir 7 is gearing up to explore American music during colonial times!
We will continue our sight reading practice in the next week as well! This is a musicianship building focus. We will also begin working on our contest music soon!
Next week, Wednesday - Friday, I will be gone for Music Educators Conference, learning new and exciting things to help our students thrive. I will email my sub plans for each class to students and parents to make sure you know what to expect each day.

Students who sign up to take a solo or and ensemble will be required to stay after school with me and receive lessons to ensure that they have a positive experience. I will stay after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These lessons should be a let's see where we are at, not me teaching the student the solo, this should be done at home.
If your student misses 2 rehearsals with me their entry will be pulled and reimbursement of payment will be expected. This is to ensure that every student who performs has a positive experience.

ELO3 Describe the Elements and Principles of Art
Students will create mini posters based on an element or principle, and share with their groups.
8th Grade will begin on their next objective
ELO4 Students will explain the connection between Art and the world around them
Students will study Grant Wood’s painting “American Gothic” and learn what a parody and spoof is. Student will create a portrait that parodies the painting and uses current or pop culture characters to create their portrait. Students come up with some pretty interesting and sometimes humorous combinations with this project, and it also gives them some freedom and ownership in their Artworks.

The Library has been busy with many books being returned! I sent out notices for books that are overdue, so please return them or bring them in so I can renew them for you if you would like to keep them a little longer. Remember, you are allowed to check out 2 books at a time for 2 weeks, then they need to be returned or renewed. If you can't find your book, check your ELA classroom Library, check you locker, and look around your house.
Also, check out this awesome app for your phone, tablet, and chromebook called Hoopla! You can check out books, music, and movies for FREE just by having a Library Card with Daniel Boone Regional Library. Keep an eye out on the morning announcements for more information!
I NEED YOU FOR BOOK TALKS!
Please let your ELA teacher know that you would like to record a book talk with me. We will set up a time and get it going. If you don't want your face to be part of our morning announcements, I have lots of tricks up my sleeves and we come up with a fun way to do your book talk!
If you have a book request for me, please write it down on the Wanted poster by the book check out desks. I'll try and get those ordered soon! Don't forget to return or renew your books every 2 weeks so you don't get an overdue notice from me.
