Mott News

Mott had an amazing Multicultural Day on December 6. More information below!

Thank you to all the Mott families who contributed to our food/toy/coat drive. It was a huge success! We are so proud of our students and families for giving back to the community!

We are very proud of our success during fire drills! During our last two drills, we had the entire building (1,100 students and 100 staff!) cleared in under 3 minutes! That is amazing! Since your children are familiar with fire drills, it is a great time to talk about family fire evacuation plans.

Winter Fun on Tuesday

We are going to have a school wide pajama day on Tuesday, December 17! Students and staff

Multicultural Day

We are hoping that your child told you about the wonderful presentations they saw on Multicultural Day. Here is a list of the countries/cultures/activities represented during the day to prompt more conversations around the dinner table. Keep in mind that all students saw the same number of presentations, but all students did not see all of the presentations.

Ballet Folklorico, Posada, France, Sign Language, Egyptian Dance, Germany, Brazil, American Drumming, Tamale Making, Russia, Kung Fu, Mariachi, Del Castillo, Love of China, African Storyteller.

5th Grade Music Program

This event takes place on Tuesday, December 17 at 6:00 p.m. All are welcome!

Winter Party Day

We will be having our winter parties on December 19th. Be on the lookout for an email from your child's teacher for more information regarding times. Please ask your child's teacher if there are any food allergies in the classroom.

Winter Bingo

We now have a working link to Home Connect that will work for all students/parents to see a child’s progress in AR! The link is on the Library Catalog home tab and ALL students use their S# for their log in. Username: s1821451 Password:1821451 (no s)

We are offering incentives for students to score a "bingo" on the reading bingo sheet that will be sent home in Wednesday folders!

Math Pentathlon Mondays for Families

On Nov. 18 we will start Math Pentathlon Mondays for Families from 5-6:30pm in the Mott library. This is a come and go event (you can come late or leave early to accommodate your needs). Parents and students can come to our library to learn Math Pentathlon Games, hosted by Sarah Boyle. A parent MUST accompany the student.

To learn more about Math Pentathlon, visit the website:

For students who wish to compete at the Austin Area regional Math Pentathlon Tournament, info can be found here:

Students do not need to compete at tournament to attend Family Math Pentathlon night.

Tips for Picking Up Your Child Early for an Appointment

We truly appreciate your efforts in scheduling appointments after school hours. However, we understand that is not always possible. So, if you need to pick your child up early for an appointment, and your child will not return that day, it could take 10 to 15 minutes for your child to get to the office. Here is the reason why:

  1. Often, our teachers do not know ahead of time that your child will be leaving early. They have to gather homework, folders, etc. to put in the backpack. Your child has to pack these items, their water bottle, the book they are reading, etc. before they start walking to the office.
  2. Our school is 19,000 square feet. It takes a long time to walk from some parts of the building up to the office. Especially if your child is young and has short legs!
  3. If your child is in special areas, lunch, computer lab, recess, etc., they will have to go back to the classroom to get their backpack. There is no guarantee that the teacher will be in the room at that time due to meetings, copying, etc. Our classroom doors are always locked, for safety reasons. So, the office will have to put a call out on the radio to find someone with a key that can walk to the classroom to open the door, so that your child can get their backpack. This will take several minutes. You can avoid this added delay by knowing your child's schedule, and arrive before or after lunch, specials and recess. Schedule by Teacher
  4. Sometimes, teachers take their class for a whole group bathroom break. These breaks are not scheduled, and are based on class need due to that day's schedule. In this case, when the office calls the room and the teacher does not answer, we just have to wait a few minutes until the class returns to the room.

In other words, please allow plenty of time to pick up your child in order to make it to your appointment on time.

Our registrar is Steve Ray. His email is

School Starts at 7:20am

Every morning at 7:20am our first bell rings to signify the start of the school day. At that time our teachers and students are already engaged and focused on learning. At 7:35am when the tardy bell rings if your child is not through the third set of double doors they will be marked tardy and missing out on valuable learning time. At times when we have special circumstances like picture day, pumpkin contest day, or drastic changes in the weather, tardies may be waved. Please note that this happens only for special circumstances. Every other day the 7:35am tardy bell is enforced, please plan your mornings accordingly. Pro tip: 7:05- 7:15am sees little to no traffic, making it that sweet spot for the start of a great day!
