Prestons Post
Term 3, Week 10
Principal's Message
Welcome to our final newsletter for Term 3. What a busy and productive term we have had in very challenging and different circumstances. I have been so proud of our students in the way they have built resilience and independence every morning as they come to school. Our Kindergarten students are so brave and we no longer have any tears as they walk into school all by themselves with a happy wave and a big smile to mum or dad at the gate. I have been proud to see our senior students take on mentoring roles and provided advice and support to younger students. It is fantastic to see that even in difficult times, our wonderful students step up and continue to be great learners and citizens. Thank you to our wonderful families for always supporting us.
Birthdays
We understand how exciting it is for children to bring in a cake or bag of lollies or treats to share with the class on their birthday. Unfortunately, due to COVID we are not able to have any cakes or lollies that are not store purchased and individually wrapped. Thank you for your understanding as we keep working towards making our school a safe place for everyone.
Students who have cold or flu symptoms
We are still bound by NSW Health and Department of Education policies on keeping our schools safe during COVID. At this time, until further advice is received, all children and staff who are experiencing cold or flu like symptoms are not able to return to school until they have received a negative COVID test. We thank everyone who is supporting us with this so that we can be confident that our school is a safe place to be.
Enhanced Cleaning during COVID
We are pleased to advise that our enhanced cleaning service provided by our two wonderful cleaners Melissa and Sue will be continuing until the end of the year. We love having these two smiling faces helping to keep our school clean and safe.
Water Bottles
Please remember that our bubblers are turned off due to COVID. ALL students should bring a water bottle to school each day. We have taps available for students to refill these as needed.
Lost Property
As the weather becomes warmer, so does the amount of lost property. We currently have a number of jumpers and jackets that we are unable to return as they have no names on them. Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child's name.
Term 4
Students will be returning to school on Monday 12 October. The following procedures will remain in place when we return:
- staff and students who have cold or flu like symptoms must not return to school or work until they return a negative COVID-19 result and are symptom free. All students who are not unwell should be at school.
- enhanced cleaning throughout the day
- bubblers are turned off
- groups and activities are limited to year groups wherever possible
- soap and hand sanitiser are available in all toilets and classrooms and students are reminded regularly to wash their hands and sanitise.
- devices and shared spaces are wiped down with disinfectant wipes after use.
- only essential adults are permitted onto school grounds.
- all visitors must sign in and complete a COVID declaration form.
- PSSA is cancelled.
- Excursions remain on hold until further notice
- Kindergarten Transition - we are busy planning some innovative ways to meet our 2021 Kindergarten students and their families.
- Year 6 Farewell - We are planning to celebrate the end of Year 6 with a farewell that follows all guidelines. We will be contacting Year 6 families with further information early in Term 4.
We will continue to update you as new guidelines are released at the start of Term 4.
End of Term Activities
Kindergarten will be having a fun day on Thursday with their Teddy Bear's Picnic, what a fun way to end the term. We will also be holding our Multicultural Day on Friday. All children are encouraged to come dressed in multicultural dress. We will be holding fun activities throughout the day. Multicultural day is always a wonderful day where our school comes together to celebrate the diverse cultures that make our school so great.
We hope that all of our students have a wonderful week and a safe holiday. We look forward to seeing all of our amazing students back at school in Term 4.

Classroom chat with 5/6 Kookaburras
5/6 Kookaburras have been doing some amazing things in the classroom this term! We are about to finish a book called The Fall by Tristan Bancks, a suspenseful thriller which has kept us all on the edge of our seat. We are working in groups to shoot our own trailer for the book on iMovie, with scripts and props! In writing, we have been focusing on literary descriptions with similes and metaphors. First we focused on the stereotypical view of lions, and now we have moved on to witches. The best part of Week 9 and 10 has definitely been Genius Hour, where every student has been studying a topic of their choice. It is amazing what we can do achieve when we are given the time!
Have a great rest of the week!
