Hi Hansen Students, Parents, and Families!

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year at the Hansen! It has been wonderful to see so many staff members in the building this week, preparing their spaces and getting ready to welcome students back. We can not wait to get started!

For those that are new to Hansen, weekly updates will be shared each Friday. Updates will contain highlights from the week as well as important upcoming information. Please do take a few moments to take a look, and reach out at any time with any thoughts, questions, and celebrations!

Handbook and Hansen School Overview

Last night, the School Committee approved the school handbooks for 2022-23 and these handbooks will be shared on the Canton Public Schools website and in an email on Tuesday morning. Please take time to read and review the elementary school handbook, and we will also share a sign-off form for families to digitally complete, indicating that they have read the document. In the meantime, I am also sharing some 'good-to know' information as part of our Hansen School Overview.

School Hours

As a continued reminder, for the next two years, the Hansen will be the 'late' school, and will be operating under a different start/end time schedule than the JFK and Luce Schools. Students will be able to exit their vehicles and enter the building beginning at 8:50 a.m.

Class will begin at 9:10 a.m., and students arriving after this time will need to enter through the Main Entrance and will be signed in as tardy. Our dismissal time is 3:25 p.m. Those that will be picking their students up at the end of the day should arrive at our walker's pick-up location a few minutes prior to dismissal. Drop-off and pick-up locations and procedures will be shared below.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures and Locations

As mentioned above, student drop-off will begin each morning at 8:50 a.m. Please wait until adults on duty are present at drop-off prior to your child exiting your vehicle. We do a 'rolling drop-off' and ask that those driving their child to school join the car-line in the front driveway that is closest to Pecunit St., pulling down towards the stop sign located near the front playground. Staff will assist students exiting their cars, and when possible we ask those driving to remain in their vehicles. Please do not enter the circle closest to the building, as our buses will be using this area to unload students upon arrival.

During afternoon dismissal, those picking up their students should park their cars in a marked spot close to Pecunit St. or in the small lot off of Pecunit St. near the baseball field. If there are no spaces, we kindly ask that you please park on the side of the Galvin Middle School driveway or in their parking lot (located right next door to the Hansen). Please do not park in unmarked places along any part of the Hansen driveway or on Pecunit St., as buses will be arriving and exiting and we want to avoid families crossing in front of them.

Our walker's pick up is located at the double doors on the back side of the front blacktop (facing the Galvin Middle School). Students will be released to approved adults only, and we appreciate your understanding!

Bus Information

Bus routes will be posted this afternoon on the district website, so please be sure to review these if your child will be riding the bus to/from school.

The district website can be accessed here.

CAPT Chalk The Walk - August 30!

CAPT will be hosting a Welcome Back to School CHALK WALK on August 30th from 5-7pm outside the Hansen to kick off the 2022-2023 school year!

Grab your chalk and invite your friends to come down to the front of the Hansen to write a message, draw your favorite character, and cheer each other on! We want to brighten the sidewalks for everyone’s first day of school using lots of colors, fun pictures, and encouraging kind words.

Let’s bring lots of big smiles to all the Hansen students on the first day of school!

This event will be weather permitting – please keep an eye out on the Hansen Elementary School CAPT – Canton Facebook page for updates!

We look forward to seeing everyone!
