Job Shadowing
Rout-canal Specialist
My Day
On April 19th I spent 4 hours observing Dr.Penesis as he was working at Oak brook Endodontic Associates. He is a rout-canal specialist. I arrived at 1pm and I spoke with the receptionist for a few minutes then went to Mr. Penesis office and we spoke about his profession and what he does. As he arrives in the morning he has either a very heck tack day or a calm one because he either has to go back and forth to speak with dentist an insurance about a patients procedure or plan. I observed a very calm day I observed him give a rout canal which took about an hour and a half. He made a hole into someones tooth where the nerve is dying and he places colorful needles inside the hole. I observed him speaking with another patient and her husband about her x-rays along with their options. Next, we spoke more about his profession. Next I observed him give another rout canal but I couldn't observe it all because it was time for me to leave.
My future career
I imagine myself in the dental field when I think about my career and I observed Dr.penesis during my job shadowing to explore a little bit of the specialties in dentistry. I don't want to be just an average dentist I want to go specializing and have my own practice. I am interested in this career because it seems like a simple job and I can manage my hours and earn more money going into a private practice. Considering I would like to raise a family this would seem more ideal in being able to have a less needy job ,but then again if I do decide to become a route canal specialist it is more demanding because people are in pain and I would need to tend to them right away. I find the dental industry interesting because even though I enjoy going to the dentist myself not to just get out of school but I like the feeling of having clean teeth . Having a job where I can have flexible hours and work with my hands I would like to be my own boss by having my own practice.
