What a Great Opening Day!

On Tuesday, Tamanend opened its doors to 850 students and 98 faculty and staff members for the 2017-2018 school year. All classes had Welcome Assemblies where we reviewed the new schedule, Advisory, and RoAR. Our 7th graders had special activities on their first day to help them get to know each other and Tamanend. Pictured above, students found Mrs. Higgins, our Receptionist and Attendance Secretary, on their Scavenger Hunt.

Throughout the year, Tamanend staff members look for examples of students showing Respect, Achievement, and Responsibility... R.oA.R. In recognition of RoAR, students are given "Tiger Tracks" tickets which can be entered into a drawing. Each Friday, Mr. Boyle draws one student's Tiger Track and announces the winner on our Tamanend Today Show. The winner can pick from a number of prizes including great coupons from Subway, Rita's, Randazzo's, Yogurt Tree, and Moe's! We thank these business for joining us in supporting Tamanend RoAR!

Student Voice in Creating New After School Clubs

Mrs. Leatherbarrow always says, "If you are going home on the bus from middle school every day, you are not doing middle school right." We want our students to be involved in school, even AFTER the school day ends. This year we have the opportunity to start new after-school activities. Student Council and NJHS Leaders brainstormed some club ideas. We would like students to use their Office 365 email accounts to complete the club survey and let us know what clubs interest them. Use your voice! This survey will close on September 15th at 4 p.m.

Who Wants to be the TIger?

During our Summer Leadership Meeting, students decided it would be exciting to open up the opportunity for any interested students to be our mascot. So, if it has been your dream to be the Tamanend Tiger, now is your chance to tell us why. Complete this Tiger Mascot application survey. Approved surveys will be used to select students to be our Tiger at pep rallies, assemblies, 6th Grade Orientation and more! Go get 'em, Tigers!

A Few Friendly Reminders

This coming Monday, we will go over the following on our Tamanend Today Show. We ask that parents/guardians please review these with your student at home. Thank you for your support.

Water Only: We allow... we even encourage students to bring water to school. We especially encourage bringing reusable containers and using our water bottle filling stations. Water is good for us. It is especially good for our brains to stay hydrated by drinking water. We do NOT allow students to drink other beverages such as Gatorade or coffee during or between classes. If students drink those beverages, we ask that they do so before arriving to school. Students can pack and enjoy a sports drink for lunch but they must finish it before lunch is over. Water doesn’t stain, burn, or attract bugs when it spills. It is just plain healthy and all students need it during and between classes. Thank you for your respectful understanding.

Fire Drills: We are required to have a fire drill each month. We ask that all students always dress appropriately for the weather each and every day, including shoe choice.

Tamanend Connections: We encourage all students and parents/guardians to read the Tamanend Connections each week so that they are aware of important information and opportunities.

Arrival to School

For supervision and safety reasons, students may not be dropped off at school before 7:10 a.m. If you are driving your student to school and arrive before 7:10, please remain in your car with your student until 7:10 a.m.

Parent Volunteers Needed

Parent volunteers are needed throughout the school year for various events. All parents volunteering must have their volunteer card issued by CBSD. Volunteering provides you the chance to be part of your child's middle school experience while helping us to offer many wonderful opportunities that will enrich their years here at Tamanend. Please click here (access code: tms) for the 2017-2018 sign up genius. Any help is appreciated. As always, thank you for supporting Tamanend Middle School.
