OLA School Council AGM this Tuesday
Please join us this Tuesday at 7:00 pm for the first School Council meeting of the year. Attending meetings keeps you in the loop of the inner workings of the school and School Council, provides you an opportunity to share your voice for council and share your feedback on various topics related to the school. Thank you for supporting your child's learning community.
OLA Meet the Staff Evening this Thursday
Please join us at 6:30 pm in the gym and meet the OLA Team followed by in class conversations with your child's teachers. Repeat in-class sessions will be offered for families with more than one child, the first beginning at 7:00 pm and the second at 7:30 pm.
This is an important opportunity to connect personally and directly with your child's teacher and learn how you can best support your child's learning, as well as ask questions to kick start the year fully in the know. Strong positive relationships with the key people holding your children is an important factor that helps to guarantee your child succeeds throughout their learning and growing journey.
Come connect with:
- Your child's homeroom teacher
- OLA's Music Teacher
- OLA's Collaborative Response Coordinator
- OLA's Family Wellness Worker
- OLA's Assistant Principal, Chaplain and Indigenous Lead
- OLA's Principal and French as a Second Language Teacher
We look forward to seeing you there!

Power Options Are Back!
Thank you to our teachers and support staff, along with many of the parents who facilitated workshops last year. What were some of the options offered by staff and parents you ask? The children adored digging deeper with science Experiments, braiding and cross training, cooking, cross-stitching, painting, beading, soccer, floor hockey, softball, planting, recycling, henna art, Ukrainian Dance, music and song writing, creative drawing, building, ringette, Reader's Theater, animal research on chromebooks, printmaking, playdough making, Rainbow Science activities, handbells, circuit building, guided drawing, card making and math games.
Excitement is already building as to what opportunities will be brought to children this year!
Power Options Planning has begun!
We are looking for parents to offer OLA children a workshop to help them go deeper into a topic of their choice and experience learning from the expertise of our parent community. Workshops can be linked to any of the Alberta Education Competencies (linked here) and rooted in your passions, work experience, skills, talents or hobbies. The options workshops will be held on the early dismissal Wednesday, October 2 from 12:45pm - 2:00pm with a repeated workshop on Wednesday, November 6 from 12:45pm - 2:00pm. Parents are asked offer their workshop on both of these days.
At OLA we do all we can to ensure learning success. Parent involvement in children's learning is a another important factor to successful learning!
We are incredibly grateful for all the parents who offered Power Options last year! You were instrumental in their success and you're always welcome to return! We will also offer Power Options Round II December 4/January 8 from 12:45pm - 2:00pm.
