On Friday students worked with one another and built their rockets. Special thanks to community volunteer Ed Lee for his knowledgeable help and guidance with this annual tradition. Thanks are also due to our school PTO for funding provided for the rockets. The rockets are expected to be launched in the afternoon on June 8.

Community Farewell & Time Capsule Display

We were so happy to welcome former teachers, staff members, principals, and students who came out for our Open House and to see the school for one last time on June 1st. Those visiting walked around the school, reminisced as they looked through photo displays and memorabilia, as well as the contents of the historic, student-friendly 1976 time capsule that was on display. Special thanks to Darlene Goldthwaite for leading this campaign, Dr. Alan Genovese, former teaching principal, and to Principal Ellis for making this event happen.

Everybody Needs Options: Visualizing Fractions

From the Eureka Math website:

Want to really see what a fraction looks like? Draw a picture. There will be no doubt about the relative size of fractions. This model, the third and last in a series by Eureka Math Lead Mathematician Scott Baldridge, connects abstract numbers to easy-to-remember visual images. These models give students alternative ways to think about mathematical concepts and provide options for solving problems.

Exploring Themes- 4th Grade Book Club

Caught Being Good

Our faculty and staff use Caught Being Goods as just another way of letting children know that we notice and appreciate simple acts of being helpful and kind throughout our school. When a student receives a Caught Being Good he or she also receives a small prize from Principal Ellis. Here are some students we would like to recognize from this week.

Garden Club Week #5

This week garden club members planted micro-greens!

Special thanks to Mrs. Nancy Berthiaume for leading this program tand for Ms. Sarah Piazza who has provided valuable assistance each week. This program is funded with a grant from the Athol Royalston Education Fund.

Catch of the Day

Our School Support Noon Duty staff continue to be recognizing students in their, "Catch of the Day," program. This honor is given to students who staff observe demonstrating our school expectations of respect for self, respect for others, and respect for property during recess. Each day they choose one student from recess as the Catch of the Day who receives a certificate, a stuffed fish for a day, and is entered into a weekly drawing in the "fish bowl" to be picked as Catch of the Week.

Free Breakfast & Lunch

As part of the 2010 Healthy and Hunger-Free Kids Act, Athol-Royalston Regional School District, along with other districts, now offers free meals to all students this school year.
