Important Information
We want to thank all our of parents who help serve ice cream at our Valentine party last week. The kids had a great time! We couldn't have done it without all your help!
We hope you all had a great AMI Friday off to give the district time to do some extra cleaning and hopefully all of our students return today well and ready for a great short week. Be looking for AMI work to come home today.
Book Fair is going on in the Library this week and the start of next week. Look for a flyer coming home with more information.
Next Tuesday night is the Art Show, Family night and first grade program starting at 5:30!
Next Tuesday is Spring pictures! Everyone will have their picture made.
Next week is Read Across America Week! The following are our dress up days:
Monday--Camo
Tuesday--Spring Picture day
Wednesday--Wacky Hair
Thursday--Dress as a Book Character
Friday--Orange
* Just a reminder--if the temp is above freezing we DO go outside for recess. Students need coats (and hats and gloves if they choose) for recess. Please label coats with names as several students have similar jackets. *
Math, Science, and Social Studies
This week we will continue mixing all the fact families together for our last accuracy check. Students will need to practice mixing these facts together at home. There are many free apps that can be downloaded on devices that will make this practice more fun. Multiplication.com is a class favorite if you have internet access. Students also have all the fact cards that we have made this year to use as well. We will take our first practice test this Friday.
Science-Last week we began reading aloud "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind." We will continue reading our chapter book and do several experiments with Dynamo Torches. We will learn how it creates energy and how this information is useful to countries like Malawi where William is from.
Reading, Writing, and Word Study
Reading--We are getting our Neon Read On this week! We are focusing on reading non fiction texts closely to find key details, main ideas, and then working to summarize in our own words! We are reading about the Olympics this week, so students may be looking to watch a little more tv than usual to see the events we've talked about!
Reminder--all students are expected to have a "grade appropriate" book to read in class every day. (This means a chapter book or a longer non-fiction selection--not Where's Waldo or a joke book). We do classroom library check in and out each Tuesday and Friday, and each class has a weekly trip to the school library.
Writing--We will be focusing on making revisions to our writing from last week. We will also be using noredink to work on our grammar skills. On Thursday we will take a district-wide writing prompt.
