GREETINGS FROM MS. SEELEY
This is the last week for the family survey. So far, we have 15 responses. My goal is to have at least 50 responses, and of course, I'd love more. I consider your feedback when we make decisions about safety, communication, events, and improvements. Please consider sharing your thoughts via a survey: https://goo.gl/forms/uzfFIZfT76h2Dmzn1. The survey will be open through March 22.
FAMILY FEEDBACK
So far, family feedback indicates that you'd like a snapshot of upcoming events in the newsletters... and close to the top! You got it!

SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM - SWPBS
EV paraprofessionals meet monthly to share ideas, brainstorm solutions, and learn effective ways to work with students. This month, major topics included data collection and de-escalation techniques with real scenarios.
De-escalation techniques are used for minor and major behaviors. For example, when a student gets frustrated, has difficulty communicating thoughts and emotions, feels embarrassment, de-escalation techniques are more effective at maintaining a calm, ready-to-learn environment. Traditional methods that often include confronting the behavior/student are not. One of the de-escalation techniques used at EV includes calm-down corners. Calm-down corners look similar but different in all EV classrooms. Often the corner includes sensory items, writing or coloring materials, a timer, and something soft like a bean bag, pillow, or carpet square. We even have a calm-down corner for staff since they need to refresh, recharge, and reset too.
MARCH CAT CASH - WHOLE SCHOOL REWARD
Students may spend Cat Cash on extra recess on the last Friday of every month this year! The extra recess will last 15 minutes.
Green hair?!!?!
Voting boxes will be set up in the lobby from Monday through Thursday morning starting on March 25.Students can use their Cat Cash to vote for one of the following teachers to dye his/hair green the following week:
Mrs. Lavelle
Mrs. Sechrist
Mrs. DiPasqua
Miss Jen
Mrs. Blattner
Mrs. Sharrer
Mrs. Black
Students can use as much Cat Cash as they would like to vote as many times as they would like. 😊
Special Cat Cash for Students in Grades 5-6: With support from the EV PTA, there is a gift card incentive that will occur the last week of March! Stay tuned to learn more!
SAFETY AT EV
Every now and again, I receive communication from a concerned parent about police or security presence at EV. We invite and expect EV Police Department and OJRSD Safety and Security staff to visit us at least 3-4 times per week. Their presence fosters positive relationships, adds another layer of safety, and prepares our first responders with a thorough knowledge of our building and staff should we have an emergency.
As an update, you may start to see an increased presence in about two weeks during our arrivals. Chief Daniels, our Chief of Police for OJRSD, has updated the safety and security staff schedules to include a security officer at the elementary buildings at least three mornings per week.
LOTS OF FUN AND LEARNING AT EV
CONGRATULATIONS - ODYSSEY OF THE MIND
On Saturday, March 9, the Owen J. Roberts school district sent 15 teams to complete in the Odyssey of the Mind East Central regional creative problem solving tournament at Millersville University. Of our 15 competing teams, eleven will move on to compete in the Pennsylvania State Championships on April 6 in Swiftwater, PA. Each of these teams earned the right to compete at the next level of competition by earning either first or second place honors at the regional competition.
East Vincent sent 11 students to compete in this contest. Four of our sixth grade students, Megha Gudipudi, Khya d’Angelo, Kayl Shea, and Rachel Epps competed as middle school students and all earned first place finishes.
Fourth and fifth grade students: Dan Walker, Makenzie Keith, Lucius Neeley, Victoria Nguyen, Sophia Shea, Jonathan Alex, and Audrey Lloyd finished in second place in their problem.
We wish our students all the best as they work to prepare for the next level of competition over the next few weeks and look forward to hearing good news from Swiftwater, in April.
CONGRATULATIONS - STEM DESIGN CHALLENGE COMPETITION
Good luck to the Super Subs from East Vincent who will compete at the state finals for the 2019 STEM Design Challenge in May. We hope your animal-friendly, ocean cleaning vessel becomes a reality one day!

Know a friend, family, or neighbor who needs to register an incoming kindergarten student? Do you need to register your incoming kindergarten student? Don't wait! Call 610-469-5714 to schedule an appointment. Visit the EV Kindergarten registration webpage for all registration document information at https://www.ojrsd.com/Page/9069.
Please note the following:
The Owen J. Roberts School District does not offer full day kindergarten. Students are registered for either a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) session.
Morning (AM) sessions are often preferred by parents. Student placement in the morning session will be determined by a lottery. To be considered for the morning (AM) session lottery, students must be registered by April 12, 2019. The lotteries will be held during the third week of April, and placement letters will be mailed by Friday, April 26, 2019. Families can request to have their child’s name put on a waiting list for the morning (AM) session. Parents will be notified if an opening occurs. Please be advised that all placements are subject to change depending on final enrollments.

CRAYOLA COLORCYCLE USED MARKER COLLECTION
K Kids started their annual used marker drive. Have dried out, old markers? Help K Kids help the environment. Classrooms have collection boxes.
Information about Crayola ColorCyle on crayola.com:
Crayola and schools across North America are banding together to help kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. That’s why we launched Crayola ColorCycle. Through this initiative, students in K-12 schools across the continental United States and parts of Canada can collect and repurpose used Crayola markers.
ColorCycle is also a great opportunity for teachers and their students to explore eco-friendly practices. Specially developed standards-based lesson plans are available to enrich instruction and promote lively class discussions.
