Field Flash
October 19, 2020
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
We were glad to have many of our kindergarten and first grade students join us in-person this past week, and we are looking forward to seeing many of our 2nd-5th grade students in person next week. For our in-person students, thank you for remembering our 3 Ws: wear your mask, wash your hands, and watch your distance. For our remote students, thank you for continuing to join us on-time, and for remaining focused and engaged throughout the day. Your next materials pick-up is on Wednesday, October 21st from 7:30-8:45am - this is for remote students only. Please be sure to wear a mask when you come to pick up your materials.
Once again, here's an overview of what this newsletter will cover:

Park Ridge-Niles School District 64’s mission is as follows:
Inspire every child to discover, learn, achieve, and care.
First day of in-person learning reminders
- Our 3 Ws: wear a mask, watch your distance, and wash your hands.
- Please have children wear a mask and bring an extra in their backpack.
- Please be sure students bring their school device (ipad or chromebook) with them to school FULLY CHARGED.
Health Commitment Clarification
Each day, prior to sending your child to school, you must perform a daily certification of health for this student. No forms need to be filled out on a daily basis; simply review the health assessment document and monitor your child for symptoms.
Every two weeks, parents must verify this daily process by checking off on an online form called the Health Assessment Parent Commitment Form.
To sign off on this form (every other Monday) please login to the Powerschool Parent Portal, click on your child’s name at the top, the go to FORMS on the left side. Go to the COVID-19 section and open the Health Assessment Parent Commitment Form. Read and check off this short form, then repeat this process for each student in your family.
Every parent who chose in-person learning must complete this form on Monday, Oct. 19, and repeat this process every two weeks on a Monday.
In the case that your child shows any symptoms, please go back to the COVID-19 section and fill out the Symptom Checklist, then call your school. This step only needs to be done if the child shows symptoms.
Bus information
On the first day of in-person instruction, your bus rider will receive a tag for his or her backpack. Thank you in advance for keeping that tag attached to the child's backpack!
Lunch information
If you are interested in ordering lunch from Quest, please visit our website linked here for more information. You can also view this flyer for additional details. Lunch orders are due by Thursday at midnight for the following week. Your child is, of course, welcome to bring his or her own lunch from home. As a reminder, children will eat lunch in the classroom at their assigned desks.
Student expectations (presentation and videos)
We'd also like to share this new resource, created by our school social worker Genny Chesney. The stories and information is specifically geared towards 2nd-5th grade students.

Information from the PTO
PTO presents Field School's 3rd annual Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat is getting the Covid treatment! To comply with IDPH recommendations, no candy or prizes can change hands so we will be hosting "Trunk, No Treats" instead.
Sign up to decorate the trunk of your car, and attendees will solve clues at each car to reach the end. (Clues will be provided--all you have to do is decorate.) Kids can still show off their costumes and see their classmates--just no candy this time around.
The event is October 24th from 1 to 3 p.m. in the staff parking lot. Masks will be required (costume masks do not count.)
Sign up to decorate your car here:

Field PTO membership is now open!
The Field PTO continues to support Field staff and students even with the unusual start of the 2020-'21 school year. Membership helps fund a variety of PTO activities from electronic books, staff appreciation events, lanyards for masks to the operational costs of the PTO. We anticipate a decrease in overall funds raised this year, so your membership is critical this year!
In addition to supporting PTO activities, your $15 membership fee includes access to the online directory on AtoZ Connect. If you become a member in October, you can also receive a free Field CARES yard sign!

THE COURSE
3k. That’s all we ask. Run, walk, bike, skate, scooter, crawl 3k. How you “run” the race is up to you! You design the course, throw on a costume, grab your family and maybe a friend or two, and off you go! To make it more fun, use an app like Runkeeper or Map My Run to keep track of how far you have gone. Once, you completed your 3k, take a screenshot of the course and post it on our Facebook or Twitter pages. The participant with the most creative route takes home a special prize!
THE COSTUMES
That’s right. Dust off those Batman masks, fairy wings, gorilla suits, and any inflatable T-Rex costumes you have hanging in your closet, because the participant with the best costume will win a fabulous gift card to one of Park Ridge’s local establishments! Take a pic of yourself or your group and submit your entry to our Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram pages.
THE COMPETITION
You know it. Battle of the D64 schools is back. Who is going to win the coveted prize of the ELF Trophy and bragging rights for the year? Will Carpenter take the lead for the 3rd year in a row, or will a new victor be crowned? It’s all up to you!! The D64 school with the highest percentage of participation wins! So, register TODAY!
THE COMMITMENT
So, how do you commit to this fun event? You register! Cost of participation is: $30 for adults (18 and over), $20 for kids (ages 5 through 18) and $5 for Tiny Tikes (ages 5 and under). Registration opens October 2nd and will end on November 8th. Participants can “race” anytime between October 24th through November 8th. Submissions of routes and costumes pics are due no later than November 8th. All adult and kid participants will receive a stunning D64 2020 ELF Halloween Hustle t-shirt. All Tiny Tikes will receive a special medal. Arrangements will be made for t-shirts, medals, and prize distributions after November 8th.
***if you do not wish your photo submissions to be posted on social media, please email your costume or route pics to district64elf@gmail.com, put 2020 Hustle in the subject line.
