Each building will have designated bathrooms for student use. Teachers will review procedures in class and signs will be posted as reminders. Students will wash hands before leaving the bathroom.

Students are urged to bring their own water bottles to campus. Students should clearly label their water bottles with first and last name and room number. Students will be able to use the water fill stations to fill bottles during recesses and lunch.
Lunch Time
Students will eat lunch daily in the cafeteria or in an outdoor eating area. Lunch will be provided free of charge for all students, although families are welcome to send lunch if they like.
Late Arrival or Early Pick Up
Please do your best to arrive on time in the morning and to schedule appointments so your child can remain on campus for the entire learning experience every day. If you arrive late and your normal drop off gate is closed, please go with your child to the front doors of the school. There, your child will be checked in and escorted to class. If you need to pick your child up early, call 510-317-4301 ahead of time so we can retrieve your child from class. Also, when possible, let your child’s teacher know. When you arrive, please go to the front of the school and let the office assistant know.
Late Pick Up
Please do your best to arrive on time to pick up your child. If a parent is late, the teacher will walk the child to the front of the school where he/she will wait for his/her parent. Parents will need to check students out at the glass doors.
SLZUSD COVID Protocols
Face masks are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED but not mandated for indoor K-12 learning environments.
Daily Home Health Checks
We ask all students, staff and community members to monitor themselves for symptoms daily prior to coming to our campuses. Anyone displaying any of the following symptoms that are new or different from what they usually have should stay home and test.
- Loss of taste or smell
- Difficulty breathing
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Fever (100 Degrees or Higher)
- Cough
- Severe Headache
- Sore Throat
- Runny Nose
Individuals with Symptoms Individuals with symptoms should stay home and test. Individuals with symptoms are allowed to return to campus once they receive a negative test result, have been fever free for at least 24 hours without medication, and all other symptoms are subsiding. Students returning, please complete the self- attestation form and report to the office to receive an admit slip. Staff returning should complete the self-attestation form and email it to their direct supervisor before returning to campus.
COVID 19 Testing Rapid Antigen Testing
We encourage all students and staff to test prior to returning to campus on the first day of school. On a first come first serve basis, subject to availability test kits will be available for pick up between 4pm-6pm on Tuesday 8/16 or Wednesday 8/17 at the following locations:
- Bohannon Middle School
- Edendale Middle School
- Washington Manor Middle School
PCR Testing for Students and Staff
CORE will continue to provide free PCR testing for students and staff at the District Office, 15510 Usher Street on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30am-4pm.
Positive Cases
Students and Staff members who test positive still need to stay home and isolate. Positive students and staff should retest for COVID-19 using an antigen test on Day 5.
- If the result is negative, they can return to campus on Day 6 with a completed Self Attestation form and must wear a mask through Day 10.
- If the result is still positive, they must remain in isolation until Day 11 unless they test negative between Day 6 and Day 10 which would allow them to return to school with a self attestation form.
Notification of Positive Cases
- Principals will send schoolwide notifications to families and staff about positive cases
- Students and staff should monitor themselves for any newly developed symptoms
- Rapid Antigen tests will be available in school offices
SLZUSD continues to encourage families, students, and staff to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and to get boosters if they are eligible. SLZUSD plans to continue to provide vaccination opportunities this coming year. Families and District staff should turn in copies of student and staff vaccination records as they are updated.
