More Ways to Prepare for Back to School Success!
As the first day of school is approaching, many students and families experience a wide range of emotions. Feelings of excitement and anxiety are normal and to be expected during times of transition.
Here are a few strategies to help ease your child (and entire family) into the new school year:
Consistency and routines are a great place to start!
- Set an earlier bedtime for the entire family
- Choose clothing, organize backpack, make lunches, fill water bottles at night
- Allow for extra time in the mornings
If your child is expressing feelings of worry:
- Empathize and validate your child's concerns.
- Avoid blanket statements such as: 'Don't Worry About It!' or 'You'll Love It!'
Take the time to truly listen for the specific worry then begin to problem solve together.
- Role Playing: Act out different ways to solve the problem/concern together.
Children look to adults for clues on how to react. It is perfectly natural for parents/guardians to have feelings of stress and worry. It is important to respond in a calm manner. Pump up the positivity and acknowledge your child's special talents. As your child adjusts and the school year starts, the anxiety typically decreases. Recognize your child's resilience on how they handle the transition back to school.

Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run
(GOTR) is a Social and Emotional Wellness program for 3rd - 5th grade girls. We teach life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event.

BE A FOSSIL HUNTER!
If you have kids who love to explore and are curious about fossils, geology, and sharks, this
event is for you! Join local geologist and fossil hunter, Dr. Jim Brown for an unforgettable
adventure into the Cretaceous period, a time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and New
Jersey was submerged beneath a shallow inland sea.
