Course 2 Math
Students in Ms. Ritten and Ms. Reed’s Course 2 math class practiced appropriately labeling the sides of a right triangle as opposite, adjacent, and hypotenuse by standing on a huge right triangle taped to the ground. Students took turns standing on different sides and angles and evaluating trig functions using their classmates names. For example (for the math folks reading!), in the picture cos(Reese)= Dylan/ W.
Woodworking 2
Students in Woodworking 2 are working on making a Rimbeau Board, a folding stand made from a single plank.

MPS Logo Process
As you may have seen in the recent update from the Superintendent, we are beginning the process of looking at our district and school logos, keeping our mascots but reimagining them in ways that are uniquely MPS. We know that each school identifies with and takes pride in their individual mascot and as part of this process we hope to unify the school mascots and logos under an umbrella district logo.
With that in mind, we'll be asking students for their input this month, with a few questions about what their mascot means to them and an invitation to draw their school mascot. We want to hear from students in each of our schools about the qualities they want to see in their mascot, what it might look like, and what it should represent about their school. This is just one of many ways that we are working to engage our students in being a leading voice in their education. Giving students voice and leadership is a key to establishing a culture that is welcoming, engaging, and impactful.
Junior Class: NACAC National College Fair Boston

Register for free early to take full advantage of our MatchMaking feature *What is MatchMaking? At the time of registration, students will select the attributes that are most important to them in a college. They will then receive an email that best matches them to the specific colleges and universities based on the criteria they provide. They will then reference this email on the day of the fair to connect with their best matches!
Students planning to attend should REGISTER ONLINE HERE and print their personal barcode to bring to the fair. This will allow Colleges and Universities to scan your barcode and put you on their mailing lists. In addition, the fair will provide students with an excused absence verification form to bring back to Milton High.

Innovative Pathways-Schools to Careers
Innovative Pathways allow students early insight to careers that suit their interests and abilities and encourage paths that they may not otherwise have discovered. Our partners, School to Careers and MassHire, provide Milton students opportunities to forge these discoveries. Both will help connect students with local employers in specific industries for our Internship Program and help to offer real life work experiences for our students in our Career Readiness class.
Click here for specific programs that may interest you. This will be updated as more opportunities are confirmed. Contact Joyce White with any questions jwhite@miltonps.org.
Senior Class Information
Calling all MHS Senior Families!
Senior Class parents/guardians have been meeting to plan a few end of the year events for our seniors. We have an enthusiastic group of senior parents ready to take on these senior week events, but we can always use more help. If you would like to help out with an event, please email Megan Renaud at megmont26@yahoo.com.
We have estimated that the total cost for parent organized senior activities will be approximately $22,000 (Lawn signs $4500, Clap-out buses $3600, Field Day $10,000, Senior lunch - $3000). With 275 seniors, we are asking for a suggested donation of $75 per student to cover the senior activity fee. All seniors will participate in all Senior Week events, regardless of parent donation. If you are in a position to donate less money or not donate at all, that is fine. If you are in a position to cover your own student's senior activity fee and perhaps a part of another student's cost (or any additional amount), that's great! The senior parent volunteers will evaluate what we have raised through this parent ask and then look to supplement with fundraising.
To donate:
- Use this link to pay through Square
- Drop a check made out to the MHS PTO to the MHS main office.
- We ask that this senior activity fee be paid by Friday, March 1, so we can start placing orders.
On behalf of the Class of 2024 - thank you!
Michelle Cardoza (ashergreta@gmail.com), Megan Renaud (megmont26@yahoo.com). Stephanie O’Keefe (sastruck1@aol.com), and the Senior Class Parent Volunteers
FAFSA Help and Delays
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education along with uAspire have partnered to provide FREE FAFSA support. uAspire is here to help you and your students navigate the FAFSA changes happening this year. We are reaching out to share a few updates and resources related to the Better FAFSA and timeline implications that will impact our students. We thought it was important to acknowledge all the changes and challenges, to share what we are learning, and to continue to work together in support and advocacy for students and families.
The environment we are in is changing daily and the lack of information and shifting timeline are frustrating for all of us. Thank you for supporting each other and supporting the uAspire team as we do what we can to support our students and communities. I am also including resources for students and counselors as we navigate the FAFSA changes that can also be found on our website: uAspire.org/DESE For Students: uAspire will present virtual webinars on the 2024 - 25 FAFSA process. We will also have a webinar targeting what steps students will need to take place after submitting their FAFSA. Please share and for students and families to register at our links below.
February 27th
5:30pm - 6:30pm ET
Next Steps After submitting FAFSA
April 2nd
4 - 5pm ET
Families should be aware that the FAFSA processing delays will delay student financial aid packages, sometimes into April. Please read communications from your student's colleges to find out about financial aid awards and possible changes to the deposit deadlines.
Senior Scholarships
The MHS Senior Scholarship Application is now available. By taking five to ten minutes to complete this brief survey on Naviance, you will automatically qualify for almost a hundred scholarships sponsored by local families and organizations. Also make sure that your Senior Portfolio is thoroughly completed, as we occasionally send that to scholarship donors who want to find out more about you, and also review it ourselves. To find the scholarship application, log onto your Naviance account, go to the blue circle with your initials in the top right corner, Surveys From Your School, and "MHS Senior Scholarship Application 2024" will appear. Complete this survey by midnight on Friday, February 16th to qualify!
There are also a handful of scholarships with separate applications available for your consideration. They can also be found in Naviance (highlight the Colleges tab, see Scholarships and Money on the right, and select Scholarship Search). There are currently a handful of scholarships posted, with many more to be added in the next few weeks. Copies of the scholarships can also be found in the School Counseling Office.
The Scholarship Selection Process:
- The process varies according to the stipulations of each individual award.
- Actual selection is performed in several different ways: representatives from some organizations select their recipients from the application forms; some are selected by a high school faculty ballot; some groups prefer the scholarship co-chairs to screen appropriate candidates.
- There are scholarships that are chosen independently, such as those voted by the faculty, department and club awards, and organizations that simply inform us of their recipients.
- This process is complex, yet is carried out in a professional, fair, and unbiased way.
The culmination of this effort is Senior Awards Night, which we will hold on Tuesday, May 28th. This is the occasion when town organizations, service clubs, scholarship donors, and the faculty recognize seniors for scholarship, service, and participation at Milton High School and the community.
Please send any questions our way, and good luck!
Sincerely,
Senior Scholarship Co-Chairs
Scott Devlin and Jennie Beliveau
