Franklin 411
Issue #18 - January 22, 2023
A Word From Mrs. Loor
We've had a busy week! Our 4th graders did an amazing job for their first choir, band and orchestra concert of the year. Everyone looked sharp in their black and white dress. Thank you to Ms. Manhardt, Ms. Morley, Ms. Lapinski and Ms. Silvester!
Our mural is underway under the guidance of Ms. Breznak and Ms. Terkovich. Each student will be painting a portion of the mural over the next couple of weeks. I can't wait to see the finished results.
We're also looking forward to the book fair which will be held on January 24-25 in the Franklin library. Please see the PTO weekly email for more information. As a reminder, this Friday, January 27th is a single session day. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 PM.
And lastly, 새해 복 많이 받으세요!! This is how Koreans wish each other a happy new year. Loosely translated, it means "I hope you receive many blessings in the new year." Today, I will be enjoying quality time with my family. We will eat 떡국 (rice cake soup), play 윷놀이 (a traditional Korean game) and bow to our elders (and get some $ in return 😊). I wish you and your family many blessings!
Have a great week!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor
From the Nurse's Office
As students, teachers and parents look forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day with parties in the classrooms, we ask that you keep our district’s nutrition policy and Franklin School’s everyday emphasis on healthy eating in mind. Please DO NOT attach any type of candy or food items to your child’s classroom Valentine’s Day cards.
Valentine candies are hazardous to many of our Franklin students who have food allergies and other dietary issues. Many candies, even those without nuts, are made in facilities that process nuts, and run the risk of cross contamination. Please note, in order to maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all Franklin students, any cards with candy or food items attached will NOT be distributed.
There are many creative and fun alternatives to candy and sweets for both cards and class parties. Stickers, small erasers, and pencils are excellent substitutes should you wish to attach something extra to your child’s card.
For health-related questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Zanelli, our school nurse. Her email is azanelli@summit.k12.nj.us. You can also visit the Summit Public Schools Virtual Health Office for additional information.
