The kids are doing so well learning about the state of Texas. This week we focused on the mockingbird and the prickly pear cactus. We listened to the mockingbird song. Boy can that bird sing!!

Reader's and Writer's Workshop

During Reader's Workshop, we learned some new strategies to help us to become a good reader. Making predictions by looking at pictures, rereading passages to help with understanding, and looking for known words inside an unknown word to figure out pronunciation are just a few strategies we learned to use.

We are continuing to work on putting more detail into our writing. We learned how objects can help us make out writing more flashy. We also learned the a writing conference is a good tool for a writer whenever they get stuck. Lastly, we discussed writing for a purpose.

This week we looked at a few different ways we could show counting on. We used dominos, a number line, and writing an addition sentence to show different ways of counting on.

We learned about words that have the short e sound in them. We also looked at the different parts of a book, such as, the title, the author, and the illustrator.

This week we had a special guest, Pastor Jon, leading Chapel! He taught us about how God helped Moses lead his people out of Egypt. What a truly amazing God!!
