Girls Soccer Gets a New Head Coach!
Mark Tobin takes on the Winter season with Ladies Soccer!
A Conversation with Tobin
Where did you go to high school, college, what were your athletic pursuits? Any significant accolades I can brag about during that time?
I went to High school in Ireland in a little town called Kilfinane. There’s not many sports in Irish schools, however, I played on a team that won provincial, national and international trophies. Additionally, I was part of a team that won college and University national titles. Was offered scholarships for multiple universities, professional terms by clubs in England and played professionally at home.
What brought you to NHS?
That’s a really long story but it was a mixture of traveling the world trying to enhance my teaching, meeting my wife at my best friends wedding and always feeling that the Bay Area was a home from home.
What are you most enjoying about being a Bronco?
That’s the easiest question. Simply, it’s the kids. They are a credit to the parent population of the Northgate community and they keep me feeling young, even though they have contributed to my hair loss ;-)
What interested you in the soccer program?
Soccer is the best game on the planet and it is a passion of mine.
What prior coaching experience do you have?
I have a USSF soccer coaching license, have coached teams in Ireland, Australia and in Virginia. I also helped the Broncos girls soccer team for a season before Lochlan was born (he’s 5).
What do you most look forward to in working with girls soccer?
To continue the great work of Coach Erin and hopefully, add one or two things that can help the program to the next level.
What are your goals for the program?
The goal is always the next match. I’ve been around soccer long enough to know that if you look beyond the next game then your opponent can take advantage.
Can you tell us about your family?
Yep, they are lucky to have me ;-) Seriously, the two best days of my life involve meeting my wife (Maya) and being at the birth of my son (Lochlan). It’s really tough being away from my family and friends from Ireland but Maya and Lochlan keep me honest, humble and very happy.
