Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
The second marking period has recently ended and report cards will be available on the Parent Portal this Friday, February 2nd at 3pm. The students at RCK are showing great growth and progress.
January 29th was the beginning of our PARP program. We are excited for the wonderful reading activities you and your children are able to share. The theme is Hollywood and we have many adorable activities that will go along with the theme. We are excited for a visit from author, Gordon Korman too!
Our next PTA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 13th, at 7:00 p.m. I hope you can join us. Immediately following the meeting, I will present some information on how to use Twitter in order to keep up with events and the kinds of learning that is happening within the walls of RCK.
The first Budget Presentation will take place at the Board of Ed Workshop Meeting on February 15th at 8 p.m. All are invited to attend.
As always, I look forward to seeing you throughout the month of February.
Sincerely,
Hillary Bromberg Ed.D.

ATTENTION: ALL 4TH and 5TH GRADE PARENTS T-Dap NOT D-Tap
Students who are entering 6th grade in September 2018, must receive an immunization containing Tetanus, Diptheria and Pertussis (Tdap). We urge you to make an appointment with your child’s health care provider as soon as possible to avoid exclusion from school in September. Please provide the documentation to your child’s school nurse as soon as your child receives this immunization so that it can be placed in his/her health record folder. Please feel free to contact your school nurse with any questions you may have regarding this matter.
Reminder: Parents of 4th grade students, please send in the mandatory school physical for this year for your child if you have not done so already. Thank you.

February's Patriotic Song
For the month of February, our daily patriotic song will be “God Bless America.” Please refer to the lyrics below and join us as we sing each morning in February.
“God Bless America”
God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America,
My home sweet home.
Box Tops for Education!
The Box Tops for Education program has been very successful. Through the Box Tops for Education program, an everyday trip to the grocery store can make a difference for the students at Ruth C. Kinney Elementary. This program allows families to clip the Box Tops coupons, found on hundreds of common grocery items, and send them into school where they will be combined with coupons from other families. Each coupon is worth 10 cents for your school. The dollars add up quickly! The average family purchases more than 100 Box Tops products each year, and 100 Box Tops totals $10 in earnings for our school. Ruth C. Kinney Elementary can earn up to $20,000 per year with your help.
We look forward to another successful year for Ruth C. Kinney and your children! Thank you in advance for your participation.

Student Showcase
Distributive Doctors
The students in Ms. Beebe and Mr. Clancy’s third grade class used the distributive property as a strategy to multiply using units 6, 7, 8, and 9. Students pretended they were surgeons to “operate” on arrays. They decomposed larger unknown facts into smaller known facts to solve.
