Principal's Update

School Closure Week of April 27, 2020

Hello Families!

I hope you are well and were able to celebrate FIESTA in some sort of way over the weekend. It won't be the same, but I look forward to the FIESTA festivities in November. I was able to have chicken on a stick and didn't realize what I have been missing. It was delicious!

Not much information has changed from the previous week in terms of school except that the building will be closed through the end of this school year; however, we are still continuing with distance learning. Your child is still completing assignments and hope that your family was able to secure a Chromebook through JISD. Please stay in email or phone contact with your child's teachers. If you are still in need of a Chromebook for your family; you can still apply on-line. If you need assistance, please let us know and we will help you!

We are making a schedule for you to pick up your child's belonging from PE; as well as drop off uniforms and instruments. Those pick-up dates will be in mid May. We will send a detailed communication with specific instructions prior to those dates. Students, nor parents, will be allowed to enter the building. Everything will be handled by our staff and distributed/received curbside. We will also schedule a time for parents to retrieve medicine from the clinic; however, Nurse Wells will call each parent for those specific dates and times.

During these drop off times, we will also have a place for you to return library books. As always if we can assist you in any way; please let us know.

School Immunizations for Students Entering 7th Grade

Dear Parents/Guardians of 6TH Grade Students:

Texas law requires that each child have on file an up-to-date immunization record. All 7th Grade children will need the following immunizations or medical records showing proof of these immunizations. If you have not done so, please take your child to your private physician or the nearest clinic so that he/she may receive the immunization checked below.

Each immunization must have month, date and year with a signature from the provider.

In order to conform to the state law, your child will not be permitted to start school in August (7th grade) without their appropriate shots.

Grading Guidelines for the Year

Below are the middle school grading guidelines in both English and Spanish. The guidelines took a lot of thought from a large committee to determine best outcomes for students under these very unusual circumstances. Very important details to note is that NO final exams will be given to students and 4th Nine-Weeks grades will NOT be included in GPA or Rank calculations.

If you have any specific questions please reach out to your grade level assistant principal, counselor or myself.
