Duke was born on April 29,1899. His parents loved music,so he grew up listening to it.When Duke turned 7, he started studying the piano. At age 15,he earned an award for his scholarship. When Duke was in his 20’s he started a band. They got hired to play at Cotton Club, Harlem’s Swankiest Hangout,and a Big- Time Nightspot.
Then one day, him and his band were on the radio! One night,people heard and hired him to perform . Then people started to dance and listen to him play.Then people started calling him the king of the keys. Then people started buying his records and they bought thousands of them! Then he started Writing his own songs with Billy. Duke and Billy wrote a song called (Take the ‘’A’’ train.It became a hit!
Then one night they played in New York the crowd started clapping and cheering.That was the last time he ever played.
On May 24, 1974 he past away from lung cancer.
