Wrong Answers, Great Learning!
I came across this article about how many kids become discouraged when they get the wrong answer, it baffled me how so many take the easy road and simply give up. With a simple reminder that we can learn from our mistakes, we can begin to help those find a stronger understanding in their learning!
"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot... and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. That is why I succeed." (Michael Jordan)
Making mistakes is a natural part of all learning. Those who we consider to be "great" are clear that mistakes lead to learning.
The latest research on education shows that mistakes are a very important part of learning! When a person makes an error in life and they have the opportunity to learn from it, they actually develop a much stronger understanding. In fact, the research states that students learn more from making mistakes than from getting all the right answers. When your child makes an error, it offers insight into what understanding your child has about a the idea. It allows parents and teachers to talk to the child about what they know, and ask questions to stretch their thinking around where they are currently developing their understanding. Parents can ask "How do you know that? What was your thinking here? Is there another way you could solve that? This conversation helps to develop the crucial skills of reasoning and communication and is therefore more helpful than simply showing a child how it is done. When you support an attitude that values learning from mistakes, you are telling your child that mistakes are a valuable and natural ingredient in learning and lead to deeper understanding. Research shows that this attitude supports stronger achievement!
Above all else, it is important for a child to feel supported by both their teachers, family, and peers! We can learn through our mistakes!

Morgans favorite quote or words she tends to live by are:
"The strongest people are not those who show strength in front of us, but those who win battles we know nothing about."
"Always pray to have eyes that see the best in people, a heart that forgives the worst, a mind that forgets the bad, and a soul that never loses faith."
When asked if she had a hero, Miss McGuire responds with, "I would have to say my heroes are my parents. They have shown me what it is like to persevere through the hardest moments in life, to embrace change and learn to look for a blessing in every trial you might experience in life. They have truly been the models of great parents and great people. "
Morgan explains how her heart lead her to where she is today through a little background of her life. She says, "I graduated from Champion high-school in Boerne in 2011 and went to Texas State shortly after to take my basics and also my prerequisites for Dental Hygiene school. After I finished that, I moved back home and applied to Dental Hygiene school. While I was waiting to get in I began working at my church in childcare and babysitting a lot for families I went to church with. Through those experiences I realized I loved kids and that was my true passion. So I withdrew my application from Dental Hygiene school and began my journey to being a teacher! I went to UTSA to get my teaching degree and did my student teaching here at Alkek with Lauren Tierney in first grade. I interviewed for a position at Alkek and was hired shortly after I finished student teaching! I have been blessed to work here at this school and work with the team I am on!"
Morgan is most proud of her journey and life changes that have led her to becoming a teacher! She is proud to have graduated, get a job and make her family proud!
I think it is safe to say that she has not only made her own family proud, but her Alkek family is just as proud and amazed at her accomplishments as well!
Thanks for all you do, Morgan, we appreciate you so much!
Enjoy your spotlight!
