A message from the Principal-Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
Since coming back to school after break, things have been going very well. Students and staff are staying well! I do want to remind you that if you or another person in your home is being tested for COVID or experiencing COVID-like symptoms, you need to keep your child home from school. You should call the school and let us know about your child's absence. This will help to keep everyone at school healthy and in session!
Did you have a chance to sign up for your parent/teacher conference? If not, please look back in your emails for the link to sign up! To keep everyone safe, we are requesting that parents sign up to have a conference via Zoom. If you cannot make this happen, please let your child's teacher know and we will make arrangements for an in-person conference. This is a great time to get more information on how you can help your child with school.
I wish you and your family a great weekend. Stay warm!

Valentine's Day Exchange-ALL Valentines DUE FEB. 5
To address some questions, yes, if your child's valentines include a pre-packaged type of candy, pencil or other trinket; you can still send that in. We will quarantine the items and send them home. This does NOT mean that you should go out and buy additional candies or trinkets. Only those that are part of the valentine should be included. Thank you for understanding!
Habit 1
Be the First to Know… Calamity Notification
Our staff and students will be notified of a school closing due to inclement weather, etc., via our Superintendent’s Twitter account. If you would like to follow us, the Twitter account is @Field_Supt. A School Messenger (phone call) notification will follow the Twitter post. If you have any questions, please contact Administration.
Also, do you follow Mrs. Bookman on Twitter? She posts throughout the school day and you might just see your child in action at school. If your child is like most, they tell you they did "nothing" at school. Well follow Mrs. Bookman and see what they really are doing! @SuffieldE

It is COLD Outside!
We go outside if the temperature is 20 degrees or higher.
If your child is in need of a winter coat this year please call the office at (330)552-5252. We have new coats that have been donated to the school for those who may be in need of one.
Zoom Clarification for In-Person Learners
If your child has COVID symptoms or is exposed to someone at home with COVID symptoms, and cannot attend school, please notify the office immediately.
A student with COVID symptoms is not required to login to class to live stream if he or she is ill; however, you have the option of having your child live stream if you feel that your child is feeling well enough to be online. If they feel well enough and will be logging in, please let your child’s teacher know so that the teacher will let him/her into the Zoom session.
If your child is quarantining they are expected to be logging into all of the classroom Zoom sessions throughout the day. If your child is home on quarantine and cannot login for any reason, you should call your child off school like you would any other day. If you have any questions please let me know.
If your child is off of school for anything not “COVID” related, he/she will not be permitted to join a Zoom session.
A message for our remote learners

- Please keep the office informed if your child will be absent from the live streaming. This is important for attendance purposes. Counselor's Corner
1/21/2021
Hello Field Families!
“I can’t do this math homework, it's too hard” or “I’m never going to be able to understand this”. How many of us have heard this and have even said it before? I know I have! We all have to deal with setbacks, mistakes, and challenges. It is important for students to know that these things are a part of life and that we can get through them with a little bit of resiliency and growth mindset! Growth mindset is when you believe in yourself and know that your abilities grow over time with practice. It also means that you understand when you make mistakes it’s okay, we just have to learn from it. Having a growth mindset is important for students because it helps them be able to look at a problem or situation differently and figure out how to approach it differently. The power of YET is a crucial part of growth mindset, understanding that you may not get it yet, but you are going to get back up and try again. Share with your students something you struggled with at first but get ongoing and then got it!
Also please check out my website to sign up for coffee with the counselor and or to contact me for your child's needs! School Counselor's Corner

Crayola Colorcycle Program
Crayola and schools across North America have banded together to help kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. Suffield Elementary will now take part in recycling markers that no longer work. It’s a super easy project to help our environment! You can send in any brand of markers, sharpies, dry erase, and highlighters. Once we collect the markers, they will be shipped to a facility that repurposes them so that they are kept out of the landfills.
