Welcome Back!
We would like to take this time to welcome back our families to Maple Dale! As we traveled to talk with each homeroom, we told the students that our school was lonely without them...and it is so true! Nothing brings the building to life like the sounds of children having fun together as they learn and play. It is a magical energy that only our kids can bring. We want to extend the offer to parents and grandparents to come in and have lunch with your child. We love seeing you!
Enjoy this issue of the Aviator Air News!
Warm regards,
Ann Marie and Mindy
All Pro Dad Breakfast - August 22nd
Please join us at the first Maple Dale Elementary All Pro Dads breakfast of the school year on Wednesday August 22nd from 8-9am in our school cafeteria. All fathers and children are invited to join us for this free monthly program sponsored by our partner Chick-fil-A who will be catering chicken biscuits along with drinks from the PTO.
This month’s topic is initiative. Everyone has something to offer the world and without initiative, the world loses. All the needs and problems are left unmet and unsolved. Initiative helps make the world a better place.
Please RSVP by Sunday August 19th if you will be attending via this link https://allprodadsday.com/chapters/5004
Lottery registration for Girls on the Run team
What is Girls on the Run?
Meeting twice a week in small teams, Girls on the Run teaches life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches and includes three parts: understanding themselves, valuing relationships and teamwork, and understanding how girls connect with and shape the world at large.
This is not a running club. Girls on the Run is a physical activity, positive youth development program (PA-PYD).
What is the commitment? When does the team meet?
Girls gather as a team with volunteer coaches twice per week, from September 10 – November 17. On November 17, all 100+ teams come together for the GOTR 5K at Sawyer Point!
Because each lesson combines running activities with character development topics, and builds upon the previous lesson, girls MUST be able to commit to BOTH days per week for the entire season. With a limited number of spots on each team, please only register your participant if you both can make this commitment.

Arrival and Dismissal Proceedures
Arrival
Students will arrive at Maple Dale at 9:00. Children are carefully directed into the school at 9:05. There are staff members who are outside to assist them, as well as staff members inside at various locations. Please stress with your child the importance of walking into school and all the way to the classroom.
If you are dropping your child off in the morning we ask you to be mindful of the time. We ask that you not drop your child off any earlier than 8:50 am. If you arrive before 9:00, drop your child at the curb in the main entrance of Maple Dale. They will be able to sit in the lobby until the bell rings at 9:05. We will have staff in the lobby entrance to welcome your children and direct them to class. If you arrive after 9:10 in the morning, please park and come in to sign you child in at the office.
Dismissal
Bus Dismissal begins at 3:45. Bus Assignments for your child are available on the District Website. Go to https://www.sycamoreschools.org/Page/2734. You will need to enter your student's ID # to retrieve the bus stop information.
If your child will regularly be picked up by you or if you intend for your child to go to Champions, please let the office know. This helps us as we plan which children will always be picked up or always will attend Champions. If you pick up occasionally, you can send a note to the office the morning of the pick-up. If this alternate dismissal plan is recurring, you may put the beginning and end dates on one note, and we will keep it on file. Please be ready to show your ID to the staff when signing out your student.
If your transportation needs have change for long-term, please fill out this Transportation Form and give it to Kathy Lake in the office.
Parents and Teachers Make Maple Dale Better - Join the PTO!
Maple Dale Elementary School offers students a rich learning environment and many compelling programs through collaboration with the PTO. In the past year and with the support of the PTO:
*every classroom teacher was given the opportunity to purchase $300 of books for their own classroom library to enrich student learning
*a gaga ball pit was installed on the playground for students to enjoy at recess
*we celebrated together the rich diversity of our school as Maple Dale families, representing nearly two dozen cultures, when we gathered for our Heritage night
*the Maple Dale Makerspace was expanded with programmable robots, structural blocks, and program supplies.
All parents, faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to be part of making Maple Dale a great place to learn and grow by participating in the PTO.
The first step is becoming a member! You can join online for just $5 through our transaction center. All members will receive a free student directory when they are published this fall.
Next, choose how you can best support our school! We encourage members to participate in one or more of the following ways:
*attend monthly membership meetings (some during the day, some in the evening)
*volunteer for a program or project! If every parent volunteered just once in an area of their interest or expertise our programs would be covered and no program or volunteer would be spread too thin.
*support our two major fundraisers, the Glow Run in October and the Carnival in April.
Will you join us? If you have any questions about the PTO, send us an email at mdpto@sycamoreschools.org.
