CES Partner Post

January 29, 2023

Good Evening, Families:

I'm not sure where the time goes but each year it seems to pass quicker than the year before. This week we enjoyed a celebration of Texas through a performance by our 4th grade students and directed by Ms. Neugent. We also kicked off our One School, One Book community reading event. Families received a letter of introduction, nightly reading schedule, and a copy of the book on Friday. Next week we will welcome a live hamster to CES. This furry friend will be in our liaison's office and visible on a "ham-cam" livestream on our website. Throughout the next few weeks, he/she will visit classrooms as a reward for correctly answering trivia about the reading. At the end of our One School, One Book event, we will be giving our campus hamster to one of our CES families. If your family would like a new pet, watch for a Google Form to enter a chance to win! We hope you enjoy time spent with your child(ren) each night reading The World According to Humphrey.

All my best,

Mrs. La Fara

CES Hero

How many people get to say that they saved a life; that they are a hero? The definition of a hero is a person known for courageous acts. Our very own Gretchen Kammerlocher (PK Teacher) saved a life Wednesday morning on her way to school. We are so proud of her incredible selfless actions. She was a quick thinker, acted fast, and saved a life.

Gretchen saw flames and noticed a house on fire on her way to work. She dialed 911, jumped out of her car and knocked on the door to alert the residents of the emergency. She discovered an elderly woman lived there alone. Once the woman was safely away from the house, Gretchen went to other homes and warned them as well. Ms. Kammerlocher made a brave choice and helped to save a life.

Additionally, Ms. Kammerlocher has been instrumental in assisting the family of one of her PK students as the little boy's father passed away unexpectedly last month. Gretchen has poured into the student with patience, grace, and love.

We are so thankful for Ms. Kammerlocher and for all the ways she demonstrates strong character - she is our hero.

CES/GCISD Spelling Bee

Congratulations to 5th grader, Neriah P. who is our 22-23 CES Spelling Bee champion. Earlier this week she competed at the GCISD spelling bee and did quite well. While she didn't advance to the next level, she did an amazing job and represented CES well.

News from Nurse Martha

The supply of extra clothes in the nurse's clinic is dwindling. Students of all ages occasionally find themselves in need of spare clothes after an incident in the cafeteria, on the playground, or in the restroom. As you clean out your child's closet, please consider donating elastic-waist pants/shorts and short & long-sleeve tee shirts to our supply at school. Socks and underwear of all sizes are also appreciated.

CES Birthdays in Lights

If you would like to have your student's name in lights on their special day, please complete this form and send $20 (cash or check payable to "CES") to the front office. If payment is not received at least 1 week before the date, we cannot display the name. The message will read "Happy Birthday (name, then first initial of last name)!" due to space limitations. For example, "Happy Birthday, Tracey L!". Be sure and take your student's photo in front of the sign for memories! For Summer birthdays, we would love to help you celebrate your student's half birthday (indicate below). If you have twins, please fill out a form for each child. Thank you!

If you have questions, please call the front office to speak with Carma Biebighauser.
