Congratulations Science Olympiad State Champions!
Science Olympiad - Coach Hartwell
Congratulations to the Eudora High School Science Olympiad team! The team earned 1st place in their division! They are STATE CHAMPIONS out of small schools! After only earning 5 event medals at Regionals, the team worked hard over the last month and placed in the top 3 in 22 out of 24 state events (23 regular events and 1 trial event)! That's a huge accomplishment in such a short time frame!
This team set a goal to earn 1st place for themselves, but to also honor their head coach that they have missed being around, and for the previous Sci O team that didn't get to compete at state last year due to the pandemic! This was truly a whole team effort! The team started the year placing 177th out of 200 schools in a national virtual meet out of California. Out of the 32 local high schools that competed in the state competition, EHS was 3rd overall behind Blue Valley West and Blue Valley North! Way to go EHS!

Varsity Softball - Coach Finucane
1st game vs. Bonner Springs 3/30/31
The Eudora Cardinals fought back after falling behind by three runs in the fourth inning. In the top of the 5th senior Jayla Pierce hit a three run homer to tie the game. Bonner went back ahead by one in the bottom of the fifth, but the Cards came back again and tied the game in the top of the 6th 5-5. The game stayed tied through the top of the seventh, but in the bottom of the 7th Bonner pushed a run across to secure the victory. First game jitters didn’t help the Cardinals efforts through the game, as only one of Bonner Springs’s runs was an earned run. The Cardinals were led by junior Harper Schreiner, and Jayla Pierce each having two hits. Pierce had 4 RBI’s in the game, with junior Taylor Hadl adding 1 RBI in the game. The Cardinals pitching was highlighted by junior Kira Baker who struck out 13.
Game # 2 vs. Bonner
The Cardinals varsity softball team took the lead in the top of the 7th inning and held off Bonner Springs for a 14-10 win to capture their first win of the 2021 season. Eudora trailed at the start of the 7th 7-10. The Cardinals offense exploded with 7 runs in the seventh, capped off with a bases clearing double by junior Elli Han with the bases loaded. Taylor Hadl, freshman Rylee Griffin and Harper Schreiner lead the Eudora offense with 3 hits each. Freshman Lily Rife, Jayla Pierce and Elli Han each had two hits. The Cardinals had 18 hits in the game. Rylee Griffin started pitching for the Cardinals went 5 1/3 innings, and struck out 4. Kira Baker closed out the game pitching 1 1/3 inning and getting her first win of the season.
1st game against De Soto 4/02/21
Kira Baker threw a gem on Thursday for a Eudora Cardinals Varsity, allowing zero runs and besting De Soto by a score of 1-0. Baker struck out 12, and only allowed 4 hits. Jayla Pierce , Elli Han and Kira Baker each had hits in the 4th inning to manufacture the lone run. Baker got the RBI with her double in the inning. Sophomore Addison Woods also contributed to the offense with a single.
2nd game against De Soto 4/02/21
De Soto took an early 0-1 lead in the top of the first, but Eudora busted out the bats in their half of the first and scored 6 runs for the home team. Jayla Pierce, Kira Baker, Lilly Rife, and Harper Schreiner all moved runners across the plate with RBI’s in the inning. The Cardinals added another run in the second, 2 more in the 4th and one more in the sixth inning to help pad their lead. Rylee Griffin led the Cards to victory in the pitching circle going seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out three. Harper Schreiner had 4 hits in the game, with Elli Han adding 3 hits, Jayla Pierce and Kira Baker each having two hits. Rylee Griffin, Lily Rife, freshman Kenzie Yoder, and Taylor Hadl each had a hit in the game. The Cardinals had 15 hits in the game.
JV Softball - Coach Hodges
Eudora Girls JV Softball started on March 30th with their first outing at Bonner Springs. It was a breath of fresh air to get out and play some ball since last Spring was quickly taken from us.
The girls fought a hard battle in the first game. Junior Rylee Calhoon hit 2 home runs and a triple to lead the team offensively. Freshman Addison Woods added to the hits with a home run, and freshman Blythe Fewins added a double. The rest of the team wasn’t too far behind with several players have a hit. In the end, we lost the battle 8-9.
In the second game, Rylee Calhoon stepped up and hit a triple. Blythe Fewins made an ESPN play of the game diving towards first base to make an out. But unfortunately, we took a big loss at the end with a score 7-14.
On April 1st we hosted DeSoto. The team struggled to put a string of hits together, but we did score a few runs. Junior Kallie Harper made a great head first slide into 3rd base to make it safe. Jr. Sego Guillemont poked a hit up the middle to score a run. Defensively juniors Carrie Young and Teaghn LeRow had great catches in the outfield. We lost the first game 12-14.
In the second game, we jumped ahead with some great teamwork but couldn’t hold onto the lead in the end. Both Rylee Calhoon and sophomore Sarah Watts had big time triples but, unfortunately, we had no one on base to score. We took the loss 11-14.
Next scheduled game will be with Paola on Tuesday, April 6th.
Varsity Baseball - Coach Kilmer
Week one is in the books for EHS baseball. With two doubleheaders already scheduled, the Cardinals picked up a rainout makeup date with Silver Lake last Friday. Each series played out the same. Game 1 would have the Cardinals get out to a lead and then not be able to hold it. Game 2 would have a good pitching effort and timely hitting to secure the win. That gives the Cards a 3-3 record on the season.
Monday 3/29 vs Jeff West L 7-10
Seniors Keaton Herron, Zeke Reazin, and Gavin Hobson all had 2 hits. Senior Sebastian Lewis lead the team with 3 hits and junior Taggert Courter added another. The offense scored seven runs but the pitching couldn’t hold the lead.
Game 2 vs Jeff West W 13-3
Seniors Keaton Herron, Zeke Reazin, Gavin Hobson, and junior Trenton Long all had 2 hits. Seniors Jace Tener and Will Schreiner each added a hit. Schreiner’s hit was the most spectacular as he hit a laser over the left-field fence for a run rule walk off to end the game in the bottom of the 6th. Trenton Long started and threw 4 2/3 innings, then junior Jaykob Lemonds cleaned up tossing the last 1 1/3.
Tuesday 3/30 vs Bonner Springs L 10-13
The offense scored 10 runs on 6 hits and 9 walks, but the 8 strike outs left a lot of runners on the bases. Gavin Hobson again collected 2 hits, while junior Bryce Clark, Sebastian Lewis, Taggert Courter, & Trenton Long each added a hit. Junior Clayton Spring, making his first start on the mound, pitched 3 innings giving up 2 earned runs but 4 total. He was relieved by senior Nathan Criqui and then Gavin Hobson, but the defense couldn’t stop Bonner.
Game 2 vs Bonner Springs W 8-3
The pitching stepped up and took on the load to get the victory. Jaykob Lemonds made his first varsity start on the mound and went 6 innings giving up just 1 earned run. Every time there was a tough situation Lemonds kept his composure and made a quality pitch. He scattered 5 hits over the 6 innings and only allowed 1 walk. Keaton Herron came on to strike out the side to end the game in the 7th.
Gavin Hobson and Sebastian Lewis had 2 hits each. Keaton Herron and Will Schreiner also added hits to the Cardinal attack.
Friday 4/2 @ Silver Lake L 5-12
Senior Dylan Meier made his first varsity start on the mound and battled well for 3 innings but unable to get out of the 4th inning. He struggled with his command as he walked 5 batters. Nathan Criqui finished up for him.
The hitters collected 10 hits for the game, led by Sebastian Lewis with 3 hits, Keaton Herron, Zeke Reazin, and Trenton Long each had 2 hits and Gavin Hobson collects another hit.
Game 2 @ Silver Lake W 11-4
For the 5th game in a row the Cardinals started a pitcher who had never started on the mound before. Sophomore Cole Parker was the latest. He went 4 2/3 innings before Keaton Herron came in to close out the game and pick up his first win on the mound.
As well as getting the win on the mound, Herron collected 4 hits in game 2. Sebastian Lewis, Trenton Long, Zeke Reazin each had 3 hits for the night. Gavin Hobson got 2 hits and Bryce Clark collected a bases-loaded single.
JV Baseball - Coach Mathern
On March 29th JV baseball finally got underway. We started our season off at home against Bonner Springs. It took us a while to get the bats going and we made some mistakes on defense, but I think that first game jitters and the first high school game in two years for some, and the first high school game ever for the freshmen took its toll on some of the kids. We lost the first game 4-9. After regrouping we came back more aggressive with our bats and started hitting the ball well. We won this game with a walk-off single by sophomore Camden Rietcheck scoring two runs. The final score of the second game was 6-5.
Thursday, April 1st we traveled to Jeff West for our second doubleheader. In the first game, I thought both sophomore Kevin Whitten and freshman Dakota Pringle pitched a great game. We again did not hit the ball super well until later in the game. We lost the game 0-4. The second game I knew was going to be a bit of a struggle. We were low on pitching and I take full responsibility for that. But even then we just did not hit the ball early on in the game. For some reason, we only like to score runs in the last three innings. We had the lead heading into the bottom of the 7th inning but ended up losing 9-10.
JV is now 1-3 after the first week of games and looks to improve on hitting the ball and scoring some runs earlier in the game. If we can do that and mitigate some of our errors on defense, I think we have a chance to be a good ball team.
Track - Coach Pickett
Meet Summary - Eudora Quad - 3/30/21
Notes: After almost two years without competition, it was great to see athletes throwing and jumping and back on the track again. Despite some wind and a few athletes out with injuries or illness, there were some fantastic efforts and we placed well in several events. Mackenzie Mayer set a school record in the javelin with a throw of 124 feet. Team scores were not kept for this meet. Varsity athletes will be back in action in just two days at the Baldwin Invitational on Thursday, and junior varsity athletes will travel to Wamego for the first JV meet of the season on Tuesday, April 6th.
Team Results: No team scores kept at this meet
