CHMS Summer FUN Calendar!

The Camp Hill Middle School Staff is excited to provide this Summer Fun Calendar to our middle school students and families. You will notice that each day there is an activity suggested to keep our middle school students busy and engaged in some learning / thinking and to ward off boredom. We encourage students to keep a summer journal and try to write in it a little bit every day, especially on the days that are marked on the calendar. Additionally, students are expected to participate in the CHMS Summer Reading Challenge. The challenge is to read at least one book over the summer and complete the book review attached below. All students who compete the Summer Reading Challenge and turn in the paper or fill out the online form at the beginning of the school year will receive extra credit from their reading teacher and a special treat from the office!

We have paper copies of the calendar, Summer Reading Challenge form, and journals available in the MS office if you prefer to stop by and pick one up. The MS office is open Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. during the summer months.

Big picture

Moving Up to Middle School for incoming 6th graders

The transition to middle school from elementary school can be challenging for many students. They can experience a variety of emotions including stress, anxiousness, and worry. Moving up to Middle School aims ease some of these feelings through the opportunities they will experience during our transition program on August 16. So far, your student has already participated in several transition activities. First, our school counselor, Mrs. Debias, worked with our student group, The Lion Pride Committee, to present a virtual information session about the middle school. There was an informational presentation for parents on May 2, and now, we are pleased to offer this half-day student orientation on August 16th. At the student orientation, students will receive their schedule and locker combination. They will have the opportunity to spend a half day here at the middle school, experiencing a compressed day, so that it is not such a surprise on the first day of school. They will try their locker, meet their teachers, eat lunch in the cafeteria and walk their schedule.

Here is the approximate schedule for the day:

8:00- arrive : please drop students off at the back parking lot doors and enter into the cafeteria

8:10- divide into HR groups in the cafeteria

8:15- begin HR period

8:30- 9:00: orientation with Mrs. DeLong

9:00-10:55: Periods 1 - 6

11:00- 11:35- LUNCH in the cafeteria

11:40 - 12:30- Periods 7-8: PE/Band/Chorus
