April Newsletter
Division 7
Happy April!!! We hope you had a very relaxing and fun March break!! We’re back in the swing and ready for another busy month!
During April students will be immersed in learning about Immigration in Social Studies and Language Arts. Students will assess why immigrants came to Canada, the individual challenges they face, and their contributions to Canada. At the end of the month, students will begin a project on Immigration and Famous Canadians. While working with a partner, they will have choices that will allow them to present what they know using the multiple intelligences. We also hope to incorporate technology with a keynote presentation. Parents will be invited in to see the hard work that the students have been doing. In Language Arts, students will also be starting new novels for their independent book clubs and will continue using various reading strategies to improve their comprehension. In Science, the students will be learning about forces and simple machines. Ambitious students have been challenging themselves in preparation for the optional Math League Contest. Good luck to our Math League contestants! Data analysis and measurement will be the other units of study in math this month.
Students who are looking to enrich their learning at home are encouraged to log in to Raz Kids and IXL math at home. In Raz kids they can work their way through increasingly more difficult levels. In math they can solidify their understanding of concepts learned in class.
Way to go, runners! Running Club is starting April 3rd, and will continue on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays after school from 2: 30-3:00. Feel free to come out and run with your child.
