By: Henry Whitehead
Background
George was born on February 27, 1863 and died on March 26, 1931. He was a professor at the University of Chicago. Mead's work was important and crucial because it laid the foundation for the theoretical perspective of symbolic interactionism.
Sociological work
Mead studied how our sense of self develops. His basic findings were that our sense of self develops as we interact with the world around us. The heart of this process is by the languages around us, the symbols we see, and our types of communication.
