Mrs. Bear's Classroom Buzz
January 22, 2015
End of Marking Period 2
Attention: Marking period 2 final grades will be posted by the end of today, Thursday, January 23rd. Please review your student's grade on the Parent Portal, and feel free to be in touch with any questions or concerns.
Menu Novel Projects
During the 2nd marking period, students tackled a science fiction or fantasy book of their choice and then composed a restaurant menu for the novel, focusing on the plot's exposition, rising action, climax, and resolution through carefully selected and composed appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Check out their unbelievably creative, thoughtful work!
Blocks 2 & 3 Ancestry Investigation
Optional assignment due Monday, January 26th
Blocks 2 and 3 will be investigating emigrants' passage into Ellis Island as we prepare to delve into the non-fiction text Across America on an Emigrant Train. I am attempting to make the introduction of the book come alive by having students making personal connections to that period in our nation's history. If you are able, discuss with your student if they had any relatives that came to America via Ellis Island. If so, please provide that relative's first and last name, and if possible, their country of origin. We will be perusing the Ellis Island registry in hopes of showing students a relative's registry and the ship they sailed to America on. (Note: This assignment is OPTIONAL. There grade will NOT be impacted if they do not come to class with this information on Monday.)
