Valentine's Day Expectations
We often get questions in regards to Valentine's Day expectations. Each grade level handles Valentine's Day celebrations a little differently. We encourage you to reach out to your student's homeroom teacher for any questions regarding Valentine's Day. Gaylord Intermediate School still asks that if you are bringing in treats for the class that they continue to be store bought and packaged.
Counselor Corner
During the month of February the counseling team will be going into classrooms to talk with students about accepting differences. The focus of the lesson is what makes us different from each other, how our differences impact our viewpoints, and how we can respect those differences. During the lesson we are also able to review our bullying policy as well as our school wide strategy of using our WITS when someone is bothering us. WITS stands for- Walk Away, Ignore, Talk Responsibly, and Seek Help. Students will get an understanding of what bullying can look like, sound like and reasons people might bully. Students will practice appropriate ways to respond if they experience bullying behavior, or if they witness bullying and knowing when to ask for help from a trusted adult. If you have any questions, or would like additional information about this topic, please feel free to contact me directly.

Familiar Face but New Role!!
My name is Sarah Skowronski and I am so excited to begin my work with the GIS community as one of the School Counselors. I have been fortunate enough to be part of the GIS family for 3 years, and previously served as the Mental Health Therapist in the building. I look forward to working with students and parents in a new way, providing additional programming and supports.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at 989-731-0856 *1508 with any questions or concerns you may have. I welcome the opportunity to meet and work with our families and students!
Alpine Chocolat Haus Fundraiser
Our annual Alpine Chocolat Haus Fundraiser is quickly approaching. We want to share some important dates and guidelines for our one and only school wide fundraising event. Much like the past few years, we will continue with online orders/sales only. The link for the website will be sent out on our kick off date. Distribution of purchased items will take place in March and follow our past practice of school pick up where we offer three locations at GIS. We will host a multiple order pick up at GIS Gym doors, single order pick ups with Last Name A-M at our cafeteria doors, as well as single pick up orders with the Last Name N-Z in our 6th/4th Grade drop off parking lot. (Single order pick up may be adjusted due to amount of orders) We will provide more detailed guidelines for pick up in our March Newsletter. Below are the important dates for the fund raiser:
- February 14 - 28: Website Open for Chocolate Sales.
- March 19-21: Chocolate Order Pick Up Dates
Lost and Found Items
With the start of the new semester, we will be boxing up Lost and Found items that have been left behind from the start of the school year until now. We ask that if your student(s) are missing any items that you encourage them to check our Lost and Found area this week. Parents that are interested in checking during schools hours we ask that you always check in through the main office for a visitor badge to ensure the safety and security of the building.
Please see GIS Office Hours below.
