EDGE Enrollment for 2021-22 (repeat info from last newsletter)

EDGE online program

We will continue offering our online-only Enhanced Digital Guided Education (EDGE) program. Students who are in EDGE will remain connected to their resident school while receiving online instruction by Salem-Keizer’s EDGE teachers.

Starting in the fall of 2021, EDGE students can choose between two learning pathways to best meet the needs of individual students and their families. One option is called EDGE Connected, which includes daily, teacher-led instruction. The other option is EDGE Independent, which is student-paced with teacher oversight and offers a more flexible schedule.

Deadline to register for guaranteed EDGE spot

The deadline to register for a guaranteed spot in EDGE is Friday, May 14, 2021. Students registered after this date will be enrolled if there is room in the program.

Credit Recovery Summer School (repeat info from last newsletter)

Credit Recovery Summer School will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2021 through Friday, July 23, 2021 for students in grades 9-11 wishing to earn credit for classes that they previously failed. All credit recovery classes will be held online through the Canvas learning platform and will not be held in person due to summer construction. All classes will be hosted by Sprague staff. Please note that grade repair (improving a passing grade) is not available this summer.

Teachers will be available Tuesday - Friday, via email & Zoom, beginning each day at 8:30 AM and ending at 11:30 AM. There are no classes on Monday.

To sign up, please complete this form on or before June 25, 2021.

If you have any questions regarding Credit Recovery Summer School, please contact Gretchen Hall-Wunderlich, Coordinator of Sprague's Summer Programs via email: hall-wunderlich_gretchen@salkeiz.k12.or.us or by phone: 503-399-3261.

A Message from the Athletic Director

Season 4 athletic registration opened on Monday, May 3rd for boys and girls basketball, swimming, and wrestling. Registration closes on Friday, May 7th. Tryouts and practices will start the following Monday on May 10th. We were given approval for Season 4 sports to go ahead. However, Marion County moved back into the “extreme risk” category and this is delaying having full team tryouts/practices indoors. We are limited to 6 student athletes plus a couple of coaches. We will follow all protocols. Please look for the FamilyID link for Season 4 registration on the Sprague athletic website. I am hopeful that we will be able to move forward, so please sign up!

Just a reminder that athletic schedules are posted online with the most up-to-date information for Season 3 (baseball, softball, golf, tennis & track & field) which can be found at https://www.salemkeizerathletics.org/public/genie/1276/school/48/. Please keep in mind that schedules do change for different reasons, even on the day of a competition due to things like weather, COVID protocols, etc. So please go to this website for schedules. We are currently allowing Season 3 spectators to home games/competitions who comply with properly wearing face coverings and physically distancing of at least 6 feet between families. Please do your part in following this guidance so we can continue to allow spectators. We are not allowing travel of spectators to away games/competitions due to Extreme Risk levels in several counties, including Marion and Polk Counties. Updated COVID information, as it relates to athletics, can be found on the OSAA website. https://www.osaa.org/coronavirus

Locker rooms will be provided for students needing to change at school because they attended the same day. Students may not store personal items in the locker rooms. Students may work with their coach to store items on campus while attending school the same day.

Due to Covid protocols, we do not provide water for student athletes. Please have your son or daughter bring whatever water they need for an athletic event. We do have water bottle filling stations in hallways at our school during the day.

There will be a Sprague Athletic Signing Day on Thursday, May 13th in our Olympic Stadium at 6:30pm. If your student athlete is signing with a university to play collegiate athletics, please submit the players name, university/college name and sport(s) to Tracy Goranson in the Athletic Office as soon as possible so that we can plan for celebrating this accomplishment. Each student athlete must RSVP by Monday, May 10th, prior to the event in order to participate.

One last thing… if there is a gap in time afterschool between practice or a game, student athletes can sit in the cafeteria and do homework if that helps them out. They would need to sit on a dot on one of the benches to make sure to physically distance and wear a mask.

Go Olys!!
