Third Grade News from Mrs. C
March 21st-25th (after Spring Break)
Tidbits From the Teacher
Good Day Parents!
There is quite a bit planned for us to learn and do after spring break. I hope everyone does something fun and gets a chance to recharge before we hop into our spring schedule.
We've analyzed our tests and copies of the data are coming home before spring break. Take a look at the data and let me know if you have any questions!
Wish List
We need a handful of extra fine BLACK sharpie pens for outlining our work that will be published in the class book this spring. If you have an extra at home or see one while you are out and about, please grab it. (Thank you in advance!)
We also need Scotch tape in the little plastic dispensers (like you use for gift wrapping).
Our germ zapper is very happy now.

What We're Studying and Learning...
Reading-
Students will continue to read and think about poetry, look at media literacy, and practice the skill of using context clues to figure out unknown words. This seems like quite a mix but it makes life interesting.
Writing-
We have started exploring and writing poetry based upon mentor text we've studied. Thanks to Audrey's dad, Sam's mom, and Avery G's mom for helping out with listening to and offering ideas during writing workshop time. The kids really love having extra ears to listen to their ideas and writings. We get closer to publishing daily!!
Math-
We'll finish up our unit on financial literacy and place value with 6 digit numbers. The class is very interested in incomes, human capital, the connection between education and salary, and all of the other things that make up financial literacy. This week we'll get into spending/sharing/saving, credit vs. cash, debit cards, budgeting, and what happens when you have an unexpected expense. We are getting real around here!!
Science-
We'll be looking at life cycles of plants and animals. Our specific cycles will be the frog and tomato plant life cycles.
Social Studies-
We'll finish up our study of financial literacy during this time.
“20 for 20” Reading Challenge
Sommer Elementary is issuing a “20 for 20” reading challenge to our families during the month of March! Pledge to read with your children for twenty minutes a day, for twenty days this month. You can read to your child, your child can read to you, or you can read together -- you choose! Enjoy the time reading with your child during this challenge -- we know it will be worthwhile. Look for more information and a reading log in your child’s folder.
