A Note from Mrs. Green, Principal
May 8, 2023
Mrs. Smith will be with me on Monday and Tuesday this week. I will be taking her around to each classroom to introduce her to the students and she will be shadowing me to start getting to know the kiddos.
I appreciate all of the emails, messages, gifts and kind words of support and encouragement. I am praying this surgery is the fix and I am determined to be back stronger after summer break!
See all of you soon,
Mrs. Green
Principal
Here is a note from Mrs. Smith:
Hello Rome City Families!
My name is Alisa Smith, and I will have the privilege of acting as Interim Principal for Mrs. Green during her medical leave. I consider Mrs. Green a close friend and colleague, and I am honored that she has asked me to spend the remainder of the year with you and your children. I’d like to take a moment to share a little about myself. I've been an educator for more than 22 years, 7 of those served in the principalship. I’m a 1994 East Noble graduate ('94, Say No More!), and attended IPFW for both my Bachelor’s in Education and Master’s in Educational Leadership. After 12 years in the classroom, I entered administration as Assistant Principal at East Noble High School before accepting the Principalship at South Side Elementary School, where I served for 4 years. Shortly thereafter, I moved to Auburn and became Principal at McKenney-Harrison Elementary School. I have recently taken some time to prioritize my most important role as Mom and have been blessed to have a few years to be a homemaker for my family.
My husband and I will celebrate 25 years of marriage in December of this year, and we have two amazing teenagers: Emma, who is 16 and a sophomore; and Adam, age 14, an 8th grader. It is a joy to watch them at this age discovering their own interests and talents. Emma plays guitar and competes on the DeKalb High School Speech Team. She is also involved with technical theatre, running sound and lights for the high school productions. She enjoys the fine arts—she paints, draws, writes; and she is the BIGGEST movie buff, and loves movies, actors, directors, and filmmakers of every era, every genre. Adam plays trombone and marches in the DeKalb High School Baron Brigade and competed in the high school intermediate jazz band as an 8th grader this year! He also plays in the middle school jazz band, concert band, pep band, and honor band, and enjoys archery and metal detecting as hobbies. I also have an adult stepson, Joshua, who is 27, has started a career in HVAC, and is engaged to marry our future daughter-in-law, Chloe. They have given us our first grandchild, Waylon, who was born last June. ❤ And, of course, I have to mention our 8-year-old miniature golden doodle, Reggie!
I love gardening, strength training, yoga, cooking, and reading. My husband and I own Fork & Fiddle Food Truck which we launched in 2016 and has become quite an adventure in entrepreneurship for us.
As we prepare to spend the next few weeks together, my only goal is the good stewardship of Rome City Elementary School, and to support all of you, your children, and Rome City teachers and staff through the end of the school year. I am confident that together, we will close out the 2022-23 school year in celebration of all you have accomplished together! Please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time. I can’t wait to get to know each of you soon!
Alisa D. Smith
