what did independence mean to singapore?
The government saw that the Singapore’s best bet for freedom is through merger. the British were unwilling to grant independence because they feared that the communist would take over Singapore after independence. Singapore's first National Day Parade (NDP) was held at the Padang on the morning of 9 August 1966. While the parade was going on, some 500,000 schoolchildren assembled in their schools to hear the National Day message. Some people shared about their memories of national day parades. Some secondary school was chosen to perform a mass dance display for NDP 2002. When it rained, the are were replaced with blue plastic sheets to prevent injuries. Some of them played n pushed each other. They fell like a domino effect. It was a funny and fun memories for them. Students will wear red and white shirt to school on national day instead of their school uniform. Students may spent time the night before to think about which shirt to wear. They will sings songs such as “home”, “count on me,singapore” and “we are singapore”. Students also look forward for the new theme song. students love national day celebration in school because they are released early then normal dismissal time.
